Teaching the Holocaust and World War II and Hitler's rise to power is an extremely debatable topic for schools because of how violent and gruesome it truly was. A prime example is the gas chambers in which millions of Jews were murdered, which prompts some schools to drop related lessons in fear that the topic will offend students of Jewish descent. The problem is that the Holocaust needs to be taught or history may be doomed to repeat itself. The difficulty is when to teach it and how much to show; absolutely everything, nothing at all or even just teaching it without showing the intensely violent parts in pictures.

Students in the eighth grade are mature enough to understand the holocaust and be able to see first hand sources like survivors which are great for learning. Another problem is how much to show. Some people say to show everything about it which could be done but it would take too long to teach and teachers would not have enough time to teach it and we can't not teach it. The best thing to do is to condense it so people in the eighth grade can see it for what it is and it won't take around 3 months to teach it.
No matter the reasons not to teach the holocaust such as kids not being mature enough to take it in, even though eighth graders can understand it. It can be taught in a non-offensive way as long as the teachers know what to teach and the teachers are monitored so the school can make sure they are not offending anyone.
