To understand why teachers should teach it, first you must know what the Holocaust was. The Holocaust was a mass genocide of Jews by the Germans in World War II. The Jews would be shipped off in trains to work camps in which they would work themselves to the bone just to be forced into a gas chamber and killed. Even though this is horrific, we must still teach it in schools so people know what happened. Students will learn about the Holocaust one way or another, but if you teach them about the Holocaust at school, they will have an environment where they are free to ask questions. Here are a few examples of what the Holocaust can help kids with: understand the consequences of prejudice or racism in society, have an acceptance of diversity, basically all lessons that they teach in school about bullying and what/what not to do, how any government can go down the drain with rash decisions at hand. All of these lessons are helpful, especially to 8th graders. That age is when bullying becomes more than just inappropriate jokes and yelling. It turns into racism, and into prejudice. Teaching kids about the Holocaust will show them what the consequences of bullying on a large scale are. It also helps 8th graders be better role models. This may help students, but the real question is, are 8th graders mature enough yet to handle this
