Teen activism is when a young person, usually under the age of 25, takes charge for a topic. A common example of a teen activist is Malala Yousafzai. Malala is a teen activist because she defied the Taliban and demanded that girls get an education she is also an activist because she set up the Malala Fund which helps girls get an education. Another example of a teen activist would be Alex Lin who has helped to reduce 300,000 pounds of e-waste by convincing the Rhode Island state legislature to ban dumping electronics. put a little work in. They don’t just wake up one morning and say I’m going to find the cure for cancer and it magically appears. Kevin Breel
What do Malala Yousafzai, Alex Lin and Kevin Breel all have in common? They are all teen activists. They all have a topic that they really care about and they work hard to help that topic. Kevin Breel’s topic is depression he is an activist on depression because he gives inspirational speeches on how to deal with your depression. He also wrote a book called Boy Meets Depression Or Life Sucks And Then You Live Kevin Breel is a perfect example that anyone can struggle from depression because when he was a kid he was on the honor roll, star basketball player, a popular kid, and the center of attention at every party he still struggled with his own inner monster. One night he sat on the edge of his bed and He seriously considered committing suicide. “I didn’t so that makes me one of the lucky ones one of the ones who gets to look over the ledge but not jump” Kevin Breel says of him almost taking his own life. Kevin Breel then realized that he needed help and slowly started his recovery. “We live in a world where if you break your arm, everyone runs over to sign your cast, but if you tell people you're depressed, everyone runs the other way.” Says Kevin Breel of this issue.
Depression In the introduction I explained briefly what depression is. But I didn't go into detail about what depression really means and how it really feels. Like I said in the introduction depression is like a monster eating away at your insides but it is worse than that. Itś like having every bone in your body broken if you don't tell anyone then no one will help mend your broken bone. But if you do you will slowly start to get better. So thatś what what it feels like to struggle with depression. But what is the actually definition of depression actually mean? The definition of depression according to Google search dictionary is: “feelings of severe despondency and dejection.” That is kind of hard to understand so basically what it means is that you are always upset even when everything is going right. There is a popular and common misunderstanding that depression is feeling sad when everything in your life is going the wrong way but that is not true depression that is the common feeling of sadness. There is a slight but extremely important difference between the two. Depression is very common and affects one in five women and one in ten men. So far all that I’ve explained is what it feels like to have depression and what depression is. But there must be some more important facts that people need to know about depression. In fact there is. Depression is an illness that affects some of the brain’s chemistry. If there is an illness there has to be some symptoms. There are a ton of symptoms. Some of these many serious symptoms are trouble sleeping or eating, not participating in favorite activities, or unusual weight loss or gain.
Why we should help this issue
In the sections I explained what depression is and what it feels like to have depression I also listed some of the many common side effects of this illness but I never really explained why should you, the people, should care and try to help devastating and increasingly common issue.
Here is one reason I think that everyone should help beat depression. Did you know that every thirty seconds someone commits suicide because of depression. To put that into another view that’s 2,880 lives taken each day or 1,051,200 lives taken each year. I think that the worse part of that is that depression doesn’t kill you like cancer might, depression makes you miserable until you are likely to take your own life by yourself. Depression is not the murderer in that case it is just inching you along trying to convince you to kill yourself. Because of depression. I believe that someone should never feel the need to voluntarily cut their life short. There is no magical pill to take, or a magical drink to make your depression just go away. The only known cure for depression is just to talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist. This is one I think that everyone should band together to help stop this awful life-taking
disease.
