You are 23 times more likely to crash texting. Dialing is 2.8 times more of a risk. Talking or listening to someone is 1.3 times more likely to crash. Even reaching for the phone you are 1.4 times more likely to crash in the car. 13 percent of drivers in the age range 18 to 20 admit to be either texting or talking on their cell phones. 34 percent of Americans say that they have texted while driving and 52 percent say they have talked on their phones while driving. Some people don’t even think it is a problem to text or talk to someone while driving. 77 percent of young adults think they are very or somewhat confident that they can text while driving safely and 55 percent think it is easy to drive safely and text on their
phones. It is a problem though. Teens that text while driving tends to spend 10 percent of their time driving outside of the lane they are in. It’s not just teens that do it but adults too. About 63 percent of young drivers have either seen their parents drive while talking or texting on their phones. 27 percent of adults say they have received or even sent text messages while they were driving. 48 percent of children ages from 12 to 17 have been in the car where the driver is texting or talking to someone on their mobile device. Even one in five people admit to surfing the web while driving. Several states have prohibited all drivers from using cell phones. If you really want to talk to someone while you are in the car it is better to use blue tooth that way you can keep your hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. If you can’t purchase a blue tooth than either put your phone on silent or put it on airplane mode that way the device cant receive any calls or messages. The person that is texting or calling you can wait untils you are in a safe environment to answer. Texting while driving it can wait.
