What was the feudal system?
The feudal system is a structure of ordering society that began in 800 CE where Charlemagne, king of the Franks, gave land to the Church and wealthy nobles in return for their loyalty in running the empire. These ideas had been around for centuries but this was the first time the system had been clearly recorded in history. It took hundreds more years before it spread to the rest of Europe.

How was the system structured?
The feudal system was based on a community in small villages. There were not many cities in medieval times. There structure where at the top the lords and bishops there was a monarch who owned all the land in the kingdom. The next level was the lords who in return for having rights to the land and over the peasants had to be loyal and fight for the king and give him taxes. The King had riches and luxury and a very good life. The Nobility also had a good life and had servants and wealth and were very comfortable. As you moved down, the positions had less power and land rights. As you moved up, the positions had more power and land rights.

In conclusion the life in medieval Europe was organized with the feudal system. The king was the head of the feudal system therefore is was the boss. The peasant was the bottom of the feudal system.
