This was certainly stressed throughout the weekend, especially in regards to the micro aspect of human services and counseling. A social worker cannot truly work with a person or family until he or she understands the biological conditions that are playing a role within the system. However, I am surprised that this class was chosen to replace the biology requirement for the social work major. Since the idea of biology was stressed so much and we could not possibly learn all of the information, I feel an actual human biology class would be more beneficial overall. By taking a semester of this class, social workers would be more prepared to work in the field and help clients work through their medical conditions. I know many other BSW programs require students to take biology classes and are often required for graduate programs, so I would rather have taken that. I certainly enjoyed the public health class and felt that what I learned will be applicable later on, but a one-credit course does not allow students to necessarily dive deep enough into some of the topics. I think it would be a great supplemental course, either required or as an elective, to discuss the prevention of various conditions that were discussed in the biology class. Although I have only taken one social work course thus far
