Essay On Tryout Experience
I remembered the day when the principal announced seventh graders and eighth graders can start signing up for the school softball team. At first I was nervous about my decision on trying out for the team because I thought I wouldn't have a chance of making the team because all the other girls trying out. While I was second guessing my decision, I kept the thought in the back of my mind that I can make the team but, there might be that one person that is better than me at tryouts. I put a bunch of weight on my shoulders with nervousness. I went to the first meeting there was before tryouts to get the paperwork. Everyone needed to complete the paperwork to get on the team. I waited for physicals to approach because after everyone got cleared …show more content…

I practiced all my position stances, throwing skills and batting skills. I practiced for weeks until it was finally here the weeks of physicals. On the day of physicals all the girls were lined up around the hallway waiting to get cleared. I was cleared and ready for tryouts after school next week.
Next week arrived so quick and I was nervous for tryouts. The first day of tryouts was tomorrow and I knew I needed to prepare to do the best I can. I went home after the first day of tryouts thinking to myself there can still be that one person that is better than me that will make the team but I won't. After the second day of tryouts I felt a little more confident in my actions of playing. When the third day arrived I knew it was my last day to show off my skills .
It was the weekend and the results of who made the team were finalized so on Monday we would know who was on the team. I sat thru the entire school day anxious to see the results. After the bell rang at 2:50 I rushed down the flights of stairs to the lower gym. Waiting for the coach to put the list on the wall. She placed the list on the wall and everyone crowded around it but I was able to get a glimpse of the list and found my name on

When I was in eighth grade one of my childhood dreams came true. I made the little league all-star team for the first time in my life. As I sat with the rest of the kids at the closing ceremonies of the regular season, I was not at all expecting my name to be called when the names of the select few players who made the all-star team were being announced. When they did call my name, I hesitated at first not knowing what to do. I was overcome by the awe of making the team. One of my friends told me to go up to the trophy stand where the coach of the all-star team was standing and accept my jersey, so I did. It took a while for it to really sink in that I had made the team, but when it did I was extremely delighted.…

We waited in the gym for about 4 hours, then I got hungry. I walked through the dark hallway to use the vending machine. After I got my honey bun, I walked around to the field house to see if they posted the team. They did, 14 id numbers on one sheet of paper. I looked up and down the list multiple times looking for my id number and unfortunately it wasn’t on there. My heart was broken and I was so confused. I walked home teary-eyed and when I arrived home I cried my eyes out. After that I didn’t play basketball for a whole week, which I had never done. After that week I got back in the gym, and kept playing every day as usual. I went to all of their games because I loved the sport and I wanted to support my friends. After the season ended everything went back to normal, we kept going to the YMCA every day. Now school has ended and summer league starts. Coach put me on Jr. Varsity just too test my skills and the first game, it was the best game of my life. I dunked the ball on a fast break and I couldn’t miss. I was the star player and that showed coach I was better so he put me on varsity. All in all I am just saying never give up and work as hard as you can, it will pay…

I only had school every Monday and Tuesday because my mom was so busy and needed to work. When she came home from work she was so tired she would fall asleep. I would worry about not learning stuff but my mom would always tell me that the only thing i needed to learn was street smarts, which is all I need for living in Chicago. The only thing that kept me human was baseball when my dad left, it was there for me when I was sad, I would walk four miles every day just so I could go to batting practice. My mom is wonderful and takes me to every baseball game even though we don’t have much money, we always save up so I can play in the best division possible. I had people come up to me and tell me I could be the next big thing in baseball, but I do it for my mom, she helps me with everything from batting to pitching and she is the best coach you could ask for. My mom gives me strength to not quit and she makes me believe I can do anything. Today is the day, tryouts are always tough but I was gonna try my best and that is all I could do. The first drill was batting we had to hit into the left, right and middle over the fence that was 300 feet away. The first up batting was Jeremy he didn't get it over on any of them, the next guy John didn't get any either. One by one none of them got it over. I heard them call my name, “Zach Lingard, you are up next after Ron Harper”. Ron is the best guy I have ever seen at baseball at my age, and he only got it over one part of the fence, the left side of the fence. The coach called my name, it was my turn. I was terrified, not one of them got it over except for Ron and he only got one over the fence, here goes nothing, the first one on the left side the coach throws me a fast slider down low and I crush it right over the fence, my…

My accomplishments in softball were second team third baseman for my freshman and sophomore year and my junior year I got the first team utility player. I have got voted team captain in softball. In softball we had two coach changes, out first coach was Mr. Chavez and the coach currently is Mr. Torgeson. These two men have different coaching methods and it was very hard to adjust. Chavez was all about the hitting and Torg was all about bunting. There overall look at how the game is played are completely different from each other. Therefore when he had a coaching change it was a big shock for me. As a freshman, I played on the varsity team and I really loved getting to have that experience. I loved playing softball and I have played since I was about 5. In Softball I seem to always hurt myself, I have hip problems and I just recently had surgery on my wrist because of softball. Therefore I learned that you need to take care of yourself and work out to keep everything attached. You also need to practice hard to succeed because in my opinion, I think hitting a softball is super hard and you need lots of practice succeed. Softball is a great example of you will fail first before you succeed because in softball there is three strikes and you might not hit the first pitch but you can hit the next one. Therefore batting in softball you might fail first before he succeed. “Never let the fear of striking out get in your…

Laurel high school has been the most glamorous of places to play baseball. The grass was scarce, dominated from large patches of dirt scattered across the outfield. Our batting cage left untouched for months at a time, creating a chest high jungle of weeds that consumed you as you entered. There were no perks of playing for the baseball program. The athletic director ignored us, the students didn’t support us, and the School wouldn’t adequately fund us. All we had were ourselves and an insatiable drive to succeed. I entered my freshman year out of shape, and with little baseball talent at all. I arrived at tryouts as an underdog, but I didn’t let that deter me. After three days of intense tryouts, I was named as a member of the junior varsity team. Unfortunately, The season didn’t go…

On January 26th, I made a huge error in my basketball game against West Central. To anybody else, that game might have seemed unimportant- insignificant really. They were not a conference rival or a sectional team. To me however, this game was very significant because I used to attend that school. At that game, I played all of my friends from kindergarten to fifth grade. I hoped that I didn’t make a fool of myself. I hoped to do amazing so that all of my old friends would see what a great basketball player I had become. I hoped that I would make a play so amazing that everyone would remember it. While I would certainly not forget the play I made, it was not the spectacular one I had dreamed. My gym teacher- Mr. Prairie asked the class, “Who’s ready for the basketball game tonight against West Central,” and I wondered if I was. Because of my insistent worrying I could not manage to make a play through all of gym class (we were playing basketball)…

I entered high school with a chip on my shoulder, bitter from being the smallest and being disregarded by my classmates. This perceived injustice drove me to work extremely hard. Night after night, I would be in the basement working on my swing, wanting to prove my worth to everyone. After months of practicing, my softball skills were starting to progress, and I was finally starting to grow. I then began to experience success on the softball field as well.…

So we kinda knew we were gonna win, but we didn’t want to jinx it and lose. We had a fantastic game and won 14-1. I had a total 0 plays out in the outfield and that sure was a whole lot of fun. I went 3-4 when I was batting which is ok but I could have gone 4-4, Since I wasn’t seeing the ball out of the pitcher's hand I was late on the ball and was all in all, a bad game. Our season was doing really well and ended really poorly, It ended by us losing 9-1, We were not happy nor were we upset that we lost. but we understood we needed to get better. Whereas High school baseball is gonna be way better cause we don’t play the same teams we play easier teams. Which is nice because we will win much easier and not have any competition. The high school team consistently wins regionals which is cool and they have been to state a couple…

I was having fun in my classes and made some great friends. However, I was nervous about the Varsity Golf team tryout. I played golf for about a year leading up to the tryout not knowing what to expect. I felt like I had a really great chance of making the team and join a varsity team at Hamilton.…

In seventh grade I wanted to tryout for volleyball. I was very nervous because I had never played it before. I was super happy when I found out all my friends and I made the team. We had a lot of practices in December to get ready for games in January. I was really nervous for our first game. Our first game was supposed to be right after christmas break ended, but we had a snow day so it was cancelled. I wished it hadn’t been so I could just get it over with, but i was gonna have to wait. We were scheduled for another game later that week. I woke up with a phone ringing and an answering machine saying that school was cancelled due to boiler issues. I sat in bed thinking I had once again gotten lucky and we had no game, I was wrong. We were…

It was the day that most freshmen dread, cuts day. There were many of us trying out for the JV baseball team- more people than there were positions. I could see it, I would be starting catcher on the JV baseball team. I had made it passed the first two weeks of tryouts and I was so confident that I was going to make it. That was, until on that last day of tryouts when the two coaches pulled me out of a drill and told me they wanted to talk to me.…

I got some duct tape, and taped a huge X on the side of a tree. For most of that summer I threw the ball at the tree trying to hit the X progressively moving further back as my arm got stronger. Despite this method of making my arm stronger, it was still not as effective as throwing with a partner. During the summer, a family friend dropped by to have dinner with us. I remembered her mentioning that her husband used to be a baseball coach and even plays wheelchair softball. I asked her if he would be willing to train me, and within the week I was practicing at his house. He helped me throw more effectively without hurting my arm. I would go to his house every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon for two hours. He became a huge part of my life because we spent so much time together. On rainy days, I would still go to his house to play cards or just hang out with him. He refined my skills and made me a better player, and even bought me a catch back for my birthday. A catch back is a netted screen that you can throw a softball at and it bounces back. Sadly, he passed away late last year. He was a great mentor of mine, and I dearly miss him. Yet despite this setback, I am determined to keep playing softball to make him and my Dad…

About a month before try-outs I had to get my act together and start working out. So everyday after school I would go with my friend Trevor to the gym so I could run and get in shape. This was crucial because I hadn’t run much since last summer. After working hard at the gym, another aspect of my game had to be brought up to the next level, shooting. So instead of my daily routine of going to the gym after school, I would go home and shoot on my lacrosse goal. Everyday after school I would at least shoot a little bit in hopes of making varsity in March.…
