There are several reasons why the treaty of Versailles was so unpopular in Germany. I will be addressing the following; why Hitler called it a dictated peace, the reduction of the German army and the effects that the reparations had on the German people.
Hitler called the treaty of Versailles ‘The Dictated Peace’ .The dictated peace meant that Germany had a choice to accept the treaty or be invaded. Furthermore there would be no import or manufacturing of future weapons for example tanks, submarines and planes. This was a drastic cut to Germany’s defences making the German people feel vulnerable and the demilitarising of the Ruhr meant that Germany weren’t able to defend one of their best sources of income because the Ruhr contained many coal fields and had a lot German industry, the German workers in that area had to see the faces that had killed their family members patrolling their streets.
As a result of treaty Germany had to pay reparations to the Allies. The German economy was devastated because they had to 6,600,000 pounds this caused massive debt and they found it incredibly hard to pay as they could not export goods, because their ports were blockaded by the allies and the loss of German territory high in resources. Germany wasn’t able to pay the second reparation as result the French occupied the Ruhr to get their payment in resources located in the Ruhr; this showed the German people that there is no safeguard to protect them from not being able to pay off their
