Essay- The Visitor

It all happened on a bright Saturday morning during school holidays. Besides my father and mother, there was my sister named Sara.

It was a special day for my sister because today was her seventh birthday. She was very excited and impatient to have her gifts. My parents decided to celebrate her birthday among ourselves. On this auspicious occasion, my mother prepared a succulent meal and a birthday cake which was well-decorated with sweet and fluffy whipping cream.

After a while, we prepared the table to serve lunch. As we were about to start, we heard the door bell ring. I got up to find who it was. To my great surprise, I saw CBI officers in front of me. They were among 5 officers. I was extremely scared and shocked. I called my father immediately and he came asking me what happened. The CBI officers told my father that they got a warrant under my father’s name. They said that they were going to make a raid around and in the house.

My father was not afraid as he knew that he did not commit any crime or illegal work. He told the officers to go ahead and do what they came for. My mother was really afraid and she started to cry. My father tried to pacify her. The CBI officers started their work. At first , they went into my parents’ bedroom and made a real mess of the room. Then, they went into mine, opened the cupboards, my wardrobes and searching in each of them, without leaving a single piece of the house and in the end of their raid, they were disappointed and apologized for the mess.

After their departure, we sat down around the dining table and were thing how we are going to clear up all these. Suddenly, I got an idea and told my parents to muster courage so that we are able to tidy the whole house. Although we were tired cleaning up the house, we celebrated my sister’s birthday and took out some photos.

With my car crashed I was able to get back home. We lived in a very conflicting area due to the war of cartels known as the "zetas" and the "the gulf cartels", which we have been targeted by them because my family had good work and belonged to a high social class. During a narcotics raid on petitioner's apartment by an undercover police officer and several plainclothes policemen, the undercover officer was shot and killed, and petitioner was wounded, as were two other persons in the apartment. Other than looking for victims of the shooting and arranging for medical assistance, the narcotics agents, pursuant to a police department directive that police officers should not investigate incidents in which they are involved, made no further investigation. Shortly thereafter, however, homicide detectives arrived on the scene to take charge of the investigation, and they proceeded to conduct an exhaustive four-day warrantless search of the apartment, which included the opening of dresser drawers, the ripping up of carpets, and the seizure of 200 to 300 objects.…

    Ride Along with a Cop

When I first arrived, I had to fill out some paperwork. Then he took my license, made a copy and took the papers. When he finished with that, he showed me around the police station. It looked so much smaller than it really is. He showed me a few of the interrogation rooms they have. They aren’t at all how I imagined them. They are just small little rooms with nice comfy chairs and nothing else. I imagined it to be a dark room with little stools and a big table separating them, like you see in the movies. But it wasn’t at all. Then he showed me the evidence room. It was way cool. When they collect evidence they put each piece in a plastic bag after they take pictures of it and then they put it in a separate little locker and once or twice a week the police chief goes through and does the rest of the paperwork and documenting. I really liked that room. It also had the place they take blood work and test for drugs. Then he showed me a room where they take the polygraph test and fingerprints. It was full of different computers and machines. I found it very interesting because I didn’t know that police stations had all of that stuff. When he finished showing me the station we went out to his car and he explained to me all they have to do before and after every shift and arrest. They have to take out the seats and clean the floor so that if someone drops drugs they know exactly who they belong to. He also told me what all the things do in the car, but he said it would make sense if I could actually see it.…

    2. Thoreau considers civil disobedience as a duty rather than a right because he believes that the individual should “make known what kind of government would command his respect,” which “will be one step toward obtaining it” (941). When a civil law, or a law established by the government contradicts with the divine law, it becomes a duty for an individual to disobey the civil law. In his essay, Thoreau describes majority of the men as “machines,” serving the state “not as merely as men mainly” (941). Thoreau believes that in order to preserve the moral sense of the individual, civil disobedience is necessary and it is the duty of the people to go against the civil law.…

The owner of the house yelled at me and told me I better not move. Even though I had a concealed weapon in my back pack I didn’t reach for it. Frozen in fear I did just that and I didn’t move an inch until the police arrived. Just like I had seen on so many shows the police showed up and handcuffed me like a common criminal, read me my Mirada Rights, and literally threw me in the back seat of the police squad. So there I sat in the back of the squad car just a couple of days after my seventeenth birthday knowing what was going to happen next as I had been down this road before. My mind raced as we drove to the police station in what seemed to be the longest ride I had ever taken in my life even thought the police station was only 3 miles away from my home.…

One night in February, I invited some of my international friends to come over to my room hillside 506 to hangout have a good time and have some beers. As the night goes, at about 1 or 2 am I am not exactly sure, the music we are playing in our room was kind of loud so that people walking around in the hallway outside of my room could probably hear it easily. We didn’t realize that we were loud until there are two people doing round and knocked on our door ask me to open and turn the music down. I will just call them the RAs, they also saw that we have open beer cans on the table so they asked all of us to show our ids to them incase someone is not 21 years old at least. A Bank Robbery

We reached the bank and my dad presented his cheque to the cashier for its encashment. I was sitting and waiting for my dad to come. All of a sudden, a group of people entered into the bank. One of them went directly to the cash counter and gave a chit to the cashier. The cashier lost his senses while the other members of that group took up their arms and started looting the customers on gun point. I tried to be patient and ran out of the bank and called the police from my cell phone to come to the spot and arrest the robbers. So it did. It reached the bank, but by that time, the robbers tried to escape. One of the police officers noted the car's registration number and gave orders to the other police personnel to follow the car and catch the robbers. The other day, I read in the newspapers about the incident of that robbery with all praises for the police party who managed to catch the gang after a long chase and encounter of an hour! After some days, I received a call from the police department appreciating my timely action, which was followed by a formal letter of appreciation from…

    My Misadventure

Growing up, my mother was a stay-at-home mom. In order to have extra spending money, she passed out papers for USA Today. Early one morning, my mother was passing out papers at the Embassy Suites when a fully naked man chased her down a hallway. Somehow, my mom was able to run and pull her cart of newspapers into an elevator before he caught up to her. My mom was traumatized because she had no way to defend herself. After she told our family about the naked man, my half-brother gave her one of his pocket knives to carry with her in case of an emergency. From that day on, my mom started carrying the pocket knife in her handbag. A few weeks later, my aunt from Portland, Oregon came to visit my family in California. When it was time for her to take her flight home, my mother, eighty-six year old great-grandfather, sister, and I went to the LAX airport to see her off. Before we reached the metal detectors, my mother remembered that she had the pocket knife in her handbag. She walked up to the nearest guard and asked him if he would hold it for her. He said that he would, but when he opened up the pocket knife he realized that it was not an ordinary pocket knife but a double sided knife used by gang members. The guard called for back-up, and he told my mother that he would have to arrest her for possession of an illegal weapon. My mother tried to explain that it was not her knife and that she had no idea that it was an illegal weapon, but he would not listen to her. My mom, sister and I were crying, and my grandfather kept saying, “Please be nice to my granddaughter.” When the back-up came with the head of security, my mom explained her story. She said, “I had no idea that this is an illegal weapon. If I had known, I would never have asked the security guard to hold the knife for me. My children are little. If you take me to prison, I have nobody to take care of my girls.” The head of security took pity on my family. Thankfully, he let my mother off with a warning – a…
