Abstract
Healthcare organizations and managers set and strive to maintain ethical standards to ensure dignity and high quality of care within the medical profession. These standards can be challenging to uphold in practice due to the ethically-complex situations which often confront healthcare managers as well as the organization of structures and goals for ethical decision-making within healthcare organizations.
Healthcare managers develop a personal code of ethics at the beginning of their career. When developing the code of ethics they are affected by many aspects in life. Healthcare covers many different individuals and calls for educating them as well. Managers have to solve many ethical problems. “Both nascent and experiences health services managers use numerous sources to develop and refine their personal ethic. Chief among them are professional codes of ethics; organization values and culture; educational socialization; and the association and pressure of peers, subordinates, and superiors” (Darr, 2011). A personal code of ethics within the healthcare community provides healthcare managers with proper behavioral patterns. The code of ethics for healthcare managers guides the manager in proper relationships between their co-workers and patients. The code of ethics also guides the manager in personal behaviors that help to build trust between the patient and other providers. This includes complying with the law regulations. When providing care to a patient a code of ethics should be followed. This provides the highest level of care to the patient depending on the situation. As a manager you should always provide whatever is necessary to provide proper care for the patient. The organization should be kept in accordance to the standards and the law. A personal code of ethics that I feel would benefit a healthcare manager would include honesty, responsibility, fairness, respect,
