Summary of the article:
Dr. Shiv Gupta’s article published on The Wall Street Journal, dated March 8th 2004 highlights Mr. Calisto Tanzi’s example, who spent his life building his twin empires, known as the milk mogul today sits in jail. Dr. Gupta points out that Moral foundation in today’s free society should be the base for every organization and individuals for operations as well as building relationships. Further he adds that Ethics form the benchmark for taking actions or decision making and also mentions the importance of mutual trust in a business society such as ours.
According to Dr. Gupta, moral and responsible behavior is essential on the part of all elements of society in order to reduce the environment conflicts. Therefore, making deep analysis on both mutual trust and ethics he states that mutual trust is an indispensible factor in our business society and is the solution to the ethical issues too. On the other hand, he mentions, ethical practices need to be integrated more firmly into policies. He presents four fundamental basis of ethic: honesty and candor in all activities; integrity in the use of all sources; avoidance of all the conflicts of interest; fairness of dealing with all. However, he also explains that fundamental basis of ethics are different for different individuals or organizations.
Finally, Dr. Gupta points out several ethical and moral elements, organizations could use to achieve successful responsibility effort, such as being willing to accept tradeoff and disequilibrium, reorganization that
