Understand the stages of child development- This is very important, you need to know for a number of reasons. Nursery teachers need to be able to see the child's level of ability. Abilities can differentiate at preschool age and an effective nursery teacher will meet each child level and guide them on their pathway to achievement. It is also important so they know understand the children that they are working with especially if they are responsible for taking care of them and teaching them. If you wanted to instruct a child and you didn't understand how to do because you don't understand what's going through their mind (stages of development) then the nursery teacher would struggle to get them to do as they are told. The nursery teacher needs to know what's normal for a child's development so that if a child is not developing normally it can be noticed and something can be done about it to help make the child better. By understanding the child's development this means the teacher can understand what the child needs to grow and flourish and how they think. If a nursery teacher does not understand the stages of child development another example of a problem could be if the child is having tantrums, then because the nursery teacher doesn't understand what's normal for a child they would have difficulty in calming the child down from their tantrum. To maintain a commitment to professionalism in preschool classroom I set a goal for myself. My goal in my classroom is to set a standard of excellence within the room and to commit myself to the growth and development of each child in offering a positive, kind, loving, and safe atmosphere. I have respect, not only for myself but, for my class, each child, and their families. I keep all parental information shared with me confidential. I also uphold all health and safety regulations and make children's well-being my top priority. I also respect family diversity. While there have been numerous reforms made to the child welfare system in Tennessee in regards to providing care for the children, one area that desperately needs to be defined is the provision of care while these vulnerable children are in the custody of the Department of Children’s Services. Currently there is no policy that addresses the responsibility for making sure that these children are provided healthy and timely meals while being held in the local office or while during transport from the office to court, facilities or placements. Nurture versus nature is a well-known controversial debate that will never be resolved. Family relationships constitute the most significant component in the development of a child. There are four components of family functioning that influence the mental growth of children. One factor is affection and nurturance. Children with parents who are affectionate and nurturing are likely to be attached to their parents compared to parents that are less affectionate in nurturing towards their children. Clarity and consistency of rules is the second aspect. Parents that have set rules that are constantly set have kids who are less likely to be noncompliant and disobedient. The third aspect is the level of expectancy that the parent has set for their child. Studies show that parents who have high expectancy towards their children have a high self-confidence, there more appreciative and they are more caring towards others. Effective open communication between the parent and the child would be the final aspect. Sometimes, the behavior of students demonstrates that something is not going right. Therefore, I think teachers must pay attention to any suspicious sings that could bother the student. As teacher is our responsibility to find out what is going on with the students in the classroom. Kids deep in their hearts feel that teachers could help them but sometimes they are afraid to ask the teacher. This issue that I see almost everyday at the school were I work as a teacher’s assistance. The students prefer to talk to their friends about their problems and sometimes teachers are the last person to find out about the problem. Sometimes is the teacher’s foul that students do not seek his/her help because sometimes the teachers do not form a bound of communication.
