Plagiarism occurs when someone chooses to use another’s work as their own or forgets this cite them correctly. This can occur when someone buys or uses another’s research or paper to submit as their work without citing them.
Based on the Three Primary Schools of Ethics we read from this week’s reading, the two primary schools of ethics that I find are most suitable for this paper is ends based and rules based ethics.
Rules based ethics focuses on the duties, rights and the principles we choose to follow when we are making decisions. We must always remember to be fair to everyone involved, and respect the people’s self-worth. We basically have to do the right thing by one another. In this situation the rule based theory helps us to make tough choices with the principle that we have chosen. So, ethically and morally you know plagiarism is wrong, so you will avoid getting involved with this.
Ends based thinking is doing whatever provides for the greater good and for the greatest number of people. This is known as the principle of utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is the proper course of action that maximizes happiness and reduces suffering. In this situation the ends based theory by not plagiarizing you will be doing the greater good for one’s self and others. You will be educating yourself and educating others with your own work.
I believe the two schools of ethics rules based and ends based are worthy of being used in real life dilemmas. You can’t have a society without rules & morals, because we would have chaos without any ramifications for ones actions that society has deemed wrong. This is why I think rules based ethics are worthy of use in real life
