Evaluate The Benefits Of Reiki Essay
There is ample evidence to show Reiki is a beneficial approach to health and well-being. Kathleen M. Whelan and Gracie S. Wishnia conducted a study to evaluate the benefits of Reiki in a hospital setting. The results of that study have been documented in this concept map. As you can see, Whelan & Wishnia (2003) proved that receiving Reiki treatments before and after surgery decreased depression, anxiety and stress, leading to over-all better health. It also stated that Reiki was able to lower pain and discomfort, allow recipients to sleep better, and use less pain medication. It is interesting to see the positive effects of receiving a Reiki treatment, which requires no medical interventions and is completely holistic. Overall, there were no negative side effects present in any patient receiving Reiki treatments, only positive outcomes which I explain in further detail throughout this presentation (Whelan & Wishnia 2003). …show more content…
I could not choose just one area of Reiki to focus on, so I choose to use a concept map to show the audience the different ways in which Reiki has been proven effective to enhance health and well-being. Whelan & Wishnia (2003) stated that the patients receiving Reiki treatments before and after surgery had less anxiety, stress, pain, and discomfort, were calmer and were able to take less main medication because of it. That sums up everything I wanted in my visual aid, so I decided to use that article. In the center, I have the health benefits of Reiki and off to each side I went in to details that are more specific on the benefits of Reiki. I was also able to list the authors’ main point in the article, which are the effects of Reiki before and after

My personal favourite holistic method of healing is that which incorporates crystals and chakras into the healing process. Energetic healing has been practiced in almost all civilizations throughout history (Shore 2004:42) and it has been shown that practicing spirituality, crystal healing, and chakra healing do actually contribute to overall calmness and healing of the body and mind (Friedman 2012:2). Using the proper crystals in combination with the chakras related to and on the physical body is said to align that chakra back to its original state, and each chakra is typically associated with certain characteristics and a colour. I learned in a crystal meditation class that the colours of the chakras associate with the colours of the crystals that are best used to balance each specific chakra, and that the characteristics of each chakra will allow you to know whether or not they are in alignment. As everything in the world is made up of vibrating particles, it seems sensible to believe that these crystals, which are made of the earth’s pure elements, can have an impact on our energies through the different frequencies of vibration in combination with our conscious thought that it is healing us. Incorporating spirituality into medicine makes sense as spirituality refers to wholeness of life, be it with…

Yoga is an exercise practiced for heath and relaxation having to do with breathing control while adopting specific body positions. Some conclusions have been pieced together about the history of yoga since the exact origin is uncertain. The first concrete evidence of yoga’s existence are some stones which have pictures on them of people doing various poses that resemble today’s yoga. These stones are thought to have been used around 3000 B.C. But even though there is not physical evidence of yoga before this, some scholars believe that its origin was before the stones were created. Since Stone Age Shamanism and yoga have similar characteristics, the scholars believe this is when yoga…

This program contained several components to address healing, which include: improvement of technology, physical design features, and the culture of care. First, technology was updated to make access for physcians easier, separate elevators for patient transport were installed, and the patient rooms had state-of-art entertainment systems installed (Grand Canyon University, 2014). Second, physical buildings were designed to promote the comfort and decrease the stress level for patients (Grand Canyon University, 2014). Lastly, a culture of care was established. The author of this paper worked at Mercy Gilbert Medical in Gilbert Arizona where they employ the radical loving care model. This hospital was named the best in the country in 2008’s list of the Top Ten Healing Hospitals by the Baptist Healing Trust (xxxxxxxxxx, 2009). The environment in this hospital was very different from any other healthcare institution that the author has worked for in the past. One of the things that stood out the most was during orientation, a priest blessed all of our hands in a ceremony, that each of us would have healing hands. This hospital also had a program that trained…

    Zen Garden Essay

The Zen gardens appear as perfect representations of Buddhism’s “middle way.” Aesthetically pleasing to the eye, they display symmetry and diverse linear movement, yet unembellished with a limited color palate, permitting minimal mental distraction. Consequently, if the goal of Zen Buddhism is a clear mind and calm body, then the gardens pictured on the website are an exemplary space for the Zen Buddhist. However, when the gardens are inaccessible to the Zen Buddhist, koans may be more practical. Although described as illogical, the koans seem more like unconventional riddles created to bend and reform the students understanding and perception of life. Technically, by learning abstract, philosophical responses to these riddles, the Buddhist…

I really enjoyed reading your post on holistic approach. You have given wonderful examples such as: aromatherapy, massage, relaxation and exercise. Effective pain management does not mean we should always consider medication but it also has many variety of nonpharmacological ways to lessen the pain. These approaches could be done by holist way and there is some evidence to support the pain relief if it is done correctly. When patients have pain it often causes muscle tensions which will lead to anxiety. If patients are willing for nonpharmacological intervention it gives them benefits by reducing drug therapy. Working in the Operating room I have some chance holding patients hands and comforting them by gentle touch and relaxation techniques…
