EVALUATION ESSAY

Length: 3-4 pages, typed, double-spaced and stapled, placed in an envelope or folder with your rough draft and editing guide(s)
First draft due March 1
Final draft due: March 9

Your second essay is an evaluation, which means it is written for the purpose of judging something, of determining whether--and for what reasons--something is or is not valuable or worthwhile. Your goal in this essay is to persuade others that your judgment about the subject is the correct one.
You may choose the subject of your evaluation: good ideas include movies, TV shows, books, websites, video games, or interesting/ innovative products (i.e. smart phones, computers, cars). I do not recommend focusing on restaurants or food products (i.e. cookies) unless there is a particularly interesting or unusual quality that you can use to focus your evaluation. Choose a subject that has different dimensions that you can explore. I strongly recommend that you email me for feedback on your topic idea before you write your first draft, especially if it is not one of the ideas listed here.
It is critical that you support your conclusions with specific details. Therefore, you must have access to the subject of your evaluation. You cannot evaluate from memory a product that you used once six months ago; you cannot evaluate a film or TV show unless you can watch it again (and again) as needed. Look closely at the subject you are evaluating as many times as necessary to gather specific details to support your conclusions. (Note that if you evaluate a TV show, your evaluation will necessarily focus on one or two episodes only; those episodes will serve to represent the series as a whole)
Your essay should begin with an introduction and thesis, and your thesis statement will assert your opinion of the subject. However, in a strong evaluation essay, the thesis will assert something more specific than just whether your conclusion is positive or negative

I would think that have to choose MySQL would be the best fit for Wild Wood Apartments. It may run higher in query testing but the overall processes and structure would work better for a small to medium size company. It meets all the requirements that the Wild Wood Apartments has for operating systems, table and row size, Much of MySQL's appeal originates in its relative simplicity and ease of use. This will be necessary for people who are not use to using this type of system.…

I got the idea because my cousin and I were playing a game where you had to multitask. So that’s how I came up with the idea. I thought that the kids would be the best at multitasking because since all the kids are still in school they might know more. I conducted the experiment by first gathering my subjects and my materials. Then I explained to all of my subject what they were going to do, I started the experiment and wrote everything they did during the test. Finally wrote all the data on the data table. The result was adults were the best at…

In Discourse on Method by René Descartes, the author starts by expressing his methodology and thought process in the effort to determine his own existence. While the topic of this piece starts by focusing on Descartes and the truth he was searching for about his existence, it quickly turns to the topic of the truth or existence of something more perfect than himself. That more perfect example being God.…

Throughout my childhood, my father had always traveled between Los Angeles, California and Uruapan Michoacán in Mexico. He would work for six months in California and then return to Mexico for the rest of the year without a need to work. Why would a father put his family through these challenges? Besides the obvious reason of our family needing finances, we later discovered that our dad, upon reaching his thirties, was going through some sort of midlife crisis. My 15 year old brother Joe joined a gang short after my dad left back to the United States. He became difficult and refused to listen to our mother. He would stroll the the streets all night and routinely come back home with items we suspect were stolen. My parents had always pondered upon and discussed the consequences of leaving us alone, without the guidance and support of both a mother and father. But because of our financial situation, my father needed to make the sacrifice. We all needed to sacrifice something.…

A Sound of Thunder and Nethergrave were two both amazing Stories. I loved them both, but there was one story that stood out above the other. This one particular story was Nethergrave. Nethergrave was an amazing lit up story it literally caught my attention immediately, it was so interesting and good it caught my eye at the very beginning. A Sound of Thunder was also an amazing story but I loved Nethergrave a bit more because it was more of one of those stories that just grabbed my attention. The main thought in my head while I was reading A sound of Thunder was why is the story called A sound of thunder that thought just kept running thru my mind but when I got to finish it I understood it and It was a great story. Nethergrave was basically about a boy who Felt All Alone and just wanted somebody to talk to make jokes with and play around with and that is why he lied to his friends on the internet probably because he wanted them to think he was cool and not some skinny kid who had no friends at all. This story was a good learning experience for me because It can teach someone don’t be afraid to tell the truth even if someone cant except you for who you are that’s their loss because you are probably a great person. Jeremy knew that that other kids didn’t want to be his friends so he met some online friends and they were nice to him because they did not know about the real him and he didn’t know about the real them. Basically what the story is saying is be yourself and don’t lie to be accepted. This was an amazing story and I loved…
