There are both negatives and positives when it comes to the intended outcomes of ECM. This links to the argument ‘is government intervention a good or bad thing’ as it shows the success of the intervention, but also the areas that have not been successful and how they need to improve.

The children living in poverty are less likely to have a healthy, balanced diet therefore, The School Food Trust 2005 (renamed ‘the children’s food trust’ in 2012) was introduced and standards were set out. This is to ensure the best for children so it encourages their physical and intellectual development and involvement. Settings within the educational system will promote economic well-being by training the workers on how to work with the children and their families. Enabling them to give advice on issues such as; housing, benefits, employment or even problems at home. Next, when a child is transitioning to a new school, the school teacher will visit the allocated child. Therefore, when the child moves to school they will be familiar with the teacher which will make them feel more comfortable.
The Government has built the foundations for implementing the policy and working towards the 5 main expected outcomes of ECM. They have done this by creating Sure Start centres and raising school standards, this is in order to make progress towards eliminating child poverty.
