Everyday Use Character Analysis
In the story, Everyday Use by Alice Walker; Dee is Maggie's sister and the daughter of the mother who is telling the story. Dee is a bold, and strong character in this story who has an uptight attitude. In this story, Dee is described as being lighter than Maggie in skin-tone, and nicer, fuller hair. Unlike Maggie, Dee did not really care for anything, nor did she have friends however, she did dress nice. I would describe Dee in this story as a bold, fearless girl that takes care of herself. Overall a nice person.
The mother talks about how Dee was determined. " ... Dee would stare down any disaster in her efforts. Her eyelids would not flicker for minutes at a time ... I often fought off the temptation to shake her" ( Walker,12). This
