Evidence-based Design and its Importance to Organisations
Q1.
Evidence- based design also referred to as EBD is a field of study that emphasize credible evidence so as to influence the end results. EBD has become so popular in healthcare and its importance can be drawn from its guiding principle and aim; EBD aims at improving patient and staff well-being, the patient healing, stress reduction and safety. The concept of evidence- based design is drawing a lot of interests today, especially to health organization as it moves beyond the general idea that the occupants are affected by the physical environment. This concepts seeks to gauge the impact that specific design has on productivity, employee and patient morale, and the patient’s outcome in general. The evidence-based design realises that the patient’s conditions can be improved by such aspects of a health facility as décor, the placement of sinks and bathrooms. For instance, the rate of nosocomial infections can be reduced by making patients’ rooms very private. By using evidence-based designs, the healthcare organisations can reduce the rate of patients’ falls as they try to reach the bathrooms. This will have a great impact on the patients’ well-being and it will play a great role in relieving the patients of stress and pain. Another importance of the evidence-based design is that it aims at reducing medication errors and also the length of the average hospital stay by a patient. A well-used EBD reduces the distance that the nurses walk in each shift as the supply stations are put near the nurse stations. All
