In order to create a proposal that will be both beneficial to clinicians and the community, a research project promoting evidence-based practice in the area of communication disorders would be most resourceful for this academic program. Evidence-based practice has become a vital principle in speech-language pathology since it allows clinicians to use verified research to help support the process of caring for a patient. By using the grant for an evidence-based project, the program will use research proven information in order to provide treatments for clients, which will essentially reassure clients that the are receiving optimal care since the clinician’s treatment decisions are justified by scientific evidence. Speech-Language Pathologists pride themselves on being lifelong learners, however, studies have shown that clinician’s are not using evidence-based practice due to funding and limited access to continuing education. Holding seminars, workshops, and lectures will help universities make students and clinicians aware of the different ways to use evidence-based practice. Giving students and clinicians the opportunity to attend different training sessions, it will essentially excite their education and motivate them to continue developing their research skills. If I were presented with an opportunity such as this in college, I would be more confident with my research skills and would have been more successful in my undergraduate career. It is vital that all students and clinicians know how to use evidence-based research into their clinical practice in order to ensure client’s are receiving the correct treatments. The only way to be certain the best evidence is being used for client’s is to start with educating students and clinician’s on how they can development and maintain research
