The movie “Evil Under The Sun” has been based on the book by Agatha Christie. The film has been directed by Guy Hamilton. It runs for approximately 116 minutes, it is rate PG and is filmed in 1981.
The movie starts with Hercule Poirot (Peter Ustinov) being called in for two investigations. It’s a case for an insurance company regarding a dead woman's body found on a hill and an important diamond sent to the company to be insured which turns out to be a fake. Poirot discovers that the diamond was bought for Arlena Marshall (Diana Rigg) by Sir Horace Platt (Colin Blakely) and Arlena is on her honeymoon with her husband Kenneth (Denis Quilley) and her step-daughter Linda (Emily Hone) on a tropical island hotel. He joins them on the island and finds that everybody else starts to hate Arlena for different reasons i.e. refusing to do a stage show, stopping a book, and for having an open affair with Patrick Redfern (Nicholas Clay), in full view of his shy wife Christine (Jane Birkin). So it's only a matter of time before Arlena turns up dead, strangled and Poirot must find out who it is that committed the murder.
Who could it have possibly have been when everyone had a water tight alibi. He will have to discover who the murderer was with a bathing cap, a bath, a bottle, a wrist watch, a diamond, the noon day cannon, the breathe of the sea, and the height of the cliff. Will he discover the murderer in time, who knows?
This is an excellent movie and has been wonderfully crafted; pushing your mind to the limits trying to figure out who the murderer was when every single person on the island has a water tight alibi. Ustinov has portrayed the character of Poirot excellently I give this movie 4.5 stars.
