Dear Mr. Baggenstoss:

Here at the University of New Orleans, we try to maintain a strict, yet fair academic curriculum for all our respective students. With that said, all of our semester objectives are clearly stated in the course syllabus and my policy regarding extra credit work will not change, so your request for extra credit work will be denied.

The reason for this is if I do allow your request for extra credit work, then it is only fair that I give extra credit work for the rest of the class. This, in turn, will only create a situation in which students will continually make requests for additional opportunities of extra credit work. Another reason is that there are other students who are in similar situations like yourself, but will accept their final grade for the semester.

I have reviewed your scores through the semester and it shows you have done well. Although receiving a B in this class is not to your satisfaction, it is also something you should not be ashamed of. While I cannot help you regarding this particular issue, just keep in mind that your goals for your future career are not over, but only delayed for a short time. Allow this to be a learning experience and next semester I am sure you can get back on the academic path you are striving for.

Again I like to reiterate my belief in providing a strict, yet fair academic standard for all my students. As a teacher, providing my students my best effort in guiding you through your academic career is of utmost importance. If there are any more questions or concerns you have, whether it be about this class or of general academic issues, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Minh

Instructions: The following list of questions is designed to assist you in your reading of much of the course material. I strongly encourage you to write out full answers to each of these questions as you read the material for class. I will use these questions to formulate quiz and exam questions. For short-answer quizzes and exam questions you will have to answer a subset of the actual questions on the study guides for the assigned readings. For multiple-choice quizzes I will draft questions based on the study questions. I reserve the right to quiz or test you on additional material assigned and/or discussed in class during this semester that may not be on this study guide. You will have 15 minutes from the beginning of class to complete short-answer quizzes and 10 minutes to complete multiple-choice quizzes. Most quizzes will be announced one class period before they are given, but I may administer pop quizzes…from time to time (so always keep up with the reading!). Questions about the assigned readings from news articles are also a possibility on all quizzes. Quizzes will be closed book, no-notes, and individual exercises. This set of study guide questions will also act as your study guide for the final exam. Do note that the purpose of such exercises is for you to show me that you have read and understood the material and can communicate that understanding in writing.…
