Examples Of American Imperialism

AMERICAN IMPERIALISM America became an imperialist nation, despite the fact that while many were open to it, many were not. Jane Addams was very adverse to the idea of imperialism, and she thought it was wrong. I don’t believe America should enforce imperialism. America became an imperialist nation because they wanted to make profit, make money. The nation wanted to be able to compete with others by selling raw materials in order to be one of the leading trade nations. America is always trying to make more money, so the government believed imperialism would bring some in. Many people were opposed to imperialism. One example being Jane Addams. She believed that
imperialism “violated other people’s rights to pick their own government,” and that “it’s wrong to force another way of life on a country or region.” Others in the early 1900’s believed that imperialism would create an empire, and that rivaling countries would want to take us down. The American Civil War showed that if a certain amount of people had too much power, bad things would happen, and this scared people. I believe that imperialism can bring some good to the world, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think that giving too much power to a nation, or to anyone, that it can get crazy. For example, Hitler had too much power and abused it, he made his power personal and not about leading a country. I think too much power gets way too messy. America being an imperialist nation is controversial. Many opinions differ about whether or not imperialism is beneficial for America, or other nations. However, I believe we should not practice imperialism.
