Self-regulation is the ability to control urges to reach based on someone else rules. Antonio’s self-regulation is learned through modeling by allowing him to identity to his own thoughts, emotions, and behavior. The identification allows Antonio to learn to make better decision and improve cognitive abilities based on external and internal influence from agents of socialization. The abilities from self-regulation are improved due to enhance problem solving skills and understanding morality. According to article “Children’s Conscience and Self-regulation” by Kochanska & Aksan (2006), “Behavioral self-regulation allows children to inhibit certain responses and produce others to the service of rule-compliant behavior, reflecting a willingness to behave consistently with external expectations” (p. 286). Kochanska & Aksan (2006) statement is important in order to evaluate why understanding morality should be addressed in order to improve self-regulation skills that prevent behavior like bullying as with Antonio learned response and action to his agents of socialization.
