To be courageous is indeed to do something that one’s self believes in even though it is difficult and terrifying. In our current packet, which included information about “the Salem Witch Trials,” there were three women who were accused and trialed as being a witch. One of these three was a Native American Maid named Tituba courageously “confessed and implicated,” that she believed she was indeed a witch including the two other girls. During the time, the girls who were claimed to be the victims had continued to accuse fellow villagers of the community for higher social status. At a certain point in April, there was a courageous “afflicted victim,” named Mary Warren who admitted her lies and stated that her peers were doing the same. Another act of courage was done by Giles Cory, accused of witch craft, was literally pressed to death for refusing to enter a plea with the court. He refused till his very last words which were, “more weight,” as he stuck to his belief no matter how fearsome his situation was.…

Nelson Mandela once said “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, uses characters to display courage many times throughout the novel. It's about a white father defending a black man in the racist town of Macomb, Alabama, in the 1930's. I found a few examples of courage for each character that stood out to me most. Atticus, Scout, and Boo Radley. First, a brave, hardworking, single parent, Atticus Finch. He first shows courage when he shoots a mad dog to protect his family when he hasn't touched a gun in over thirty years. Another character in the story, Miss Maudie, explains “I guess he put down his gun when he reilized god gave him an unfair advantage over most living things...” Another courages thing Atticus does, is standing up for…

Nelson Mandela once said, "I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." He also learned that courage is the ability to stay strong through adverse situations. The characters in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird are courageous. The novel tells the story of how the Finch family overcame a predicament that emerged from racial discrimination. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is disgraced for defending a black man who is accused of raping a white woman. This causes his children, Jem and Scout, to also face hostility. Valor is often seen as an upside to someone’s personality, but when very brave, it mistakenly leads to being brave in situations where the dispute is unfavorable. Excessive bravery leads to careless or unneeded acts, times when doing something is insane. Having too much courage results in recklessness. Courage takes over rationality, the outcome being unwise choices, which leads to consequences. In both passages the qualities of bravery leads to unnecessary risks.…
