A safe cultural environment is a place where there is no physical or emotional threatening because of individual differences. The classroom is very diverse due to the fact that the community the school is placed in is multicultural. In the classroom there is no emotional or physical harm because of someones racial, ethnic or group membership. No group member seems to be withdrawing from the social milieu because of his culture or differences because once again the class is diverse. The objective of this study was to examine the progress of Latino students with ED when assigned to culturally competent teachers in their school environment in addition to the other school supports they receive. For the purpose of this research; cultural competence is defined as the process through which teachers are trained in the following areas: (a) awareness of one’s own cultural perspective, (b) awareness of attitudes towards cultural differences, (c) development of cross cultural skills and ability to implement different cultural practices and interventions. As a teacher, it is important to be aware of these differences in order to maximize the learning and development of all students. Dealing with children form various ethnic groups and cultures can be especially challenging. Some counties may not be adequately funded. It may not be in the counties budget to provide so many teachers for one classroom. Being a military brat I was raised around all different kinds of race, religion, cultures, and so on. I know what it is like to be that one with different views and values. Relating to students is really important to me because I want them to always feel safe and comfortable in my classroom. Multicultural education is education that teaches the value of cultural diversity (Slavin, 2012). There are five dimensions that fall under multicultural education, which are content integration, knowledge construction, prejudice reduction, empowering school culture. These five dimensions are different strategies to implement diversity in the classroom, and using culture examples in our content area.
