Examples Of Disrespect In American History

American History: Our Hope for the Future As I think of the people that do not stand, but rather kneel for our national anthem, I realize how disrespectful they are being towards our country, our flag, and our veterans. I am highly offended by this because they are showing disrespect to the people that risk their lives so that we can live ours freely, and one of those people risking their lives is my cousin, Evan. I also realize that other people, not just the ones that kneel for our national anthem, are also showing disrespect to people because of skin color or ethnicity. Disrespect is one of the biggest issues in our country today, and people do not realize how major it is when they disrespect our veterans, or other people. If we reflect on many historical events, we will realize why people should be shown respect.

Firstly, many people show disrespect to other people because of their skin color. And while people may not realize how big of a deal racism is, we can see how major it is if we reflect on the Civil War. The entire war was started through slavery due to skin color. Recently, many people have kneeled for the playing of our national anthem. When we do not stand for our national anthem, we show our veterans that we do not care about their sacrifice. Our veterans have sacrificed so much for us, just so that we could live our lives freely. “The veterans of our military services have put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms that we enjoy. They have dedicated their lives to their country and deserve to be recognized for their commitment.” This quote by Judd Gregg is further proved by events such as Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and World War 1 and 2, during which our veterans put their lives on the line, and some even gave their lives, just so that we could be safe and live our lives
