If you can’t accept yourself for who you are, then what makes you think you could accept others? The director of the film “Crash” uses duality in order to argue that wherever there is class difference, there is lack of acceptance. Sometimes this reflects a lack of self acceptance.
From the start we can see that class difference and lack of acceptance creates chaos. First, we see the scene where the politician’s wife was arguing with her husband about the two carjackers and she says, “if a white person sees two black guys walking towards you and you walk the other direction, she’s a racist!” She was upset at the fact that she got robbed because she didn’t say anything to her husband or else she would've been considered as a racist. Another scene that shows lack of acceptance creating chaos is the scene when the hispanic locksmith was fixing the door knob and the politician’s wife was arguing with her husband and she was telling him “ i want the locks changed in the morning and it’ll be nice if this time they didn’t send a gandbanger.” If you noticed, the lack of acceptance is what makes her act so poorly towards people. She was quick to assume that the hispanic locksmith was a gangbanger because of his background. Throughout the film, she makes assumptions that hurt others but she doesn’t realize it. The politician’s wife has a maid named Maria and in all the scenes we see Maria getting treated like garbage and like she isn’t a human being with feelings.
