the day before and it was love at first sight. Romeo might have fallen in love with her but if Romeo had not gone to the party that night, he might not have had the chance to kiss her. It was his fate to fall in love with Juliet because after he met her, he was invited to the party where they then kissed. Things really escalated quickly from there on. Another example of fate was when Romeo kills Tybalt. Tybalt storms in mad and is looking to start a fight. Romeo fights tybalt and ends up killing him. He says he is “Fortune’s Fool.”(Shakespeare 3.1 line 133) This tells us that fate is the reason he is banished. It was Romeo’s choice to kill Tybalt. But, his fate is to be banished And if Romeo is banished, he and Juliet can not be together. This leads to other events. One thing plays off of another and the situation gets worse and worse. In act 5 scene 2, a letter is written to Romeo. The letter is supposed to tell Romeo that Juliet is not dead. She is only pretending. The letter never gets to Romeo. (Shakespeare 4.1 line 17) “Unhappy fortune” Friar Lawrence blames fortune for not letting the letter about Juliet not really being dead for not getting there on time. It was fortune that the letter would never get to Romeo, he would think she was dead. Then Romeo would kill himself. Fate is also in real life. It depends on all of the choices that you make. In this case, that is called free will. One time, there was a big test that I was supposed to study for the night before the test. Well, I left my book bag at school. Leaving the book bag at school was my free will or choice. If I had not left my book bag, I could have studied for the test and not made a bad grade. It was fate that I did not make the grade that I wanted to make. Something would have gone wrong for me to not make the good grade that i wanted to. If I had not left my bag at school, I would probably forgotten something and made a bad grade as I normally do. Fate and free will makes up a big part of Romeo and Juliet. It also plays a role in everyone’s life, including mine. Throughout the whole story, fate is responsible for pretty much everything that happened in the book. Free will is responsible for how fate ends up turning out. Again, an example of fate was when Romeo ended up falling in love with Juliet. Another is when Romeo gets banished for killing Tybalt. Sadly, when the letter about Juliet does not reach Romeo on time. And finally how fate plays out in my life every day. Ultimately, Romeo’s and Juliet’s fate was to die together in the end.
