principle. The characters in this book are not Christian but is interesting to see how they act without God’s holy Word. The dialogue in the shows some Christian principles although like the characters it is not done intentionally. The dialogue between people in the book is clean and does not in any way take the Lord God’s name in vain. Although at one point in the story Jonas is told that he can lie he tries to avoid doing it as much as possible. It was hard to understand the Christian view on the dialogue because it does not give many examples of non-Christian or Christian beliefs in it. The plot in this book seems very devoid from God and leaves the reader with a sense that the only hope for society or nation is in the people themselves. It is very sad to see in this book the despair and hopelessness without God. In the book there is nobody to trust besides yourselves or the government that rules you. I think the point that the author was trying to was that one day society could become like this. But if she trusted in God she would realize that He would never just leave us in a state of complete separation from him. The Giver was an interesting look at a society that will probably never happen. It also reminds me of the need for God and his continual source of hope in him and that one day we will be with Him too.
