Examples Of Heroism In The Odyssey

Heroism is being a leader and a helper for other people’s well being. Like spider man, a fictional hero, he was once bullied and he understood how it felt to need someone to help. But once he got his superpowers and he started saving people’s lives, he understood even more how important it is to help other people. He shows great heroism because he is not afraid, he is daring, and cares about the safety of his community. Of course, Odysseus isn’t your friendly neighborhood spider man. Odysseus is prideful, and yet he cares about his home that he rules, he is a king. He is wise in battle but cocky too. For example, when he fought the cyclops he knew exactly what to do to survive. But when he was leaving, he rubbed in the fact that the great Odysseus
beat the son of Poseidon, who is a greek god. Poseidon cursed him for his pride, and he ended up taking longer to go home. He even stopped at other places to make allies, but ended up taking longer instead of going to his home to help his family and his people. After 20 years, he got home and his wife was holding an archery tournament for her hand in marriage for her kingdom needed a king. Athena disguised him as an old beggar, and once he beat every single man as an old beggar, he turned back into himself. He killed the leader, but was so angry that he didn’t stop there. He killed the men, which were his people. He didn’t protect their lives but took them. Real heros don’t do that, especially kings who need the trust from their people. So I would not consider Odysseus a hero, for his actions show that he is selfish, violent, and doesn’t care about the safety of his people.
