When the Japanese-Americans in the camps were given loyalty questionnaires, George’s father did not want to serve or pledge loyalty to the country that did not care about his family, so he and George’s mother took the risk of answering “no-no” to the two infamous questions about serving and pledging allegiance, which would have resulted in them being sent to another camp.
