Examples Of How To Shoot A Basketball Essay
Have you ever played basketball or just shot around at the gym with your family and friends? Have you missed your shots while shooting, constantly? Well, I started playing basketball when I was in fourth grade, then, by the time I was in the seventh grade; I started playing with my local high school team. Therefore, I am going to tell you how to shoot a basketball properly. The right way to shoot a basketball when you play at any level of basketball, such as youth, high school, college, or professional, shooting is a key element of the game.
The five things you need to know in order to shoot correctly:
1.) Holding the ball.
2.) Have the correct body stance.
3.) Position the ball in the shot pocket.
4.) Release of the ball.
5.) Perfecting your

Another problem you may have is that your ball is not going in the correct direction. Do not worry; these problems can be easily fixed! If your ball is not going in the correct direction, make sure your non-shooting hand is on the side of the ball. Your non-shooting hand should not be in front of the ball or on the bottom of it. When there is no rotation on the ball, make sure your thumb has the correct spacing in order to get the right amount of rotation you need. If you notice that your shot is flat, check to see if the ball is “rolling” off your fingertips. After you go back and fix these small problems, you should be back on the right track when holding the basketball correctly. Since you know how to hold the basketball correctly, the next thing to learn is the correct body …show more content…
Move the ball from your shot pocket to eye level in a smooth motion before releasing it. Your non-shooting hand serves only to guide the ball and to keep it steady while your shooting hand applies force. Make sure the ball stays in front and should not go behind or to the side of your head. Use your legs to help drive the ball by jumping upward while your shooting hand launches the ball. Do not lean forward as you jump. If your body is balanced, you will jump straight up and down as you shoot. Your elbow and wrist should extend in a straight line to the

In preparation for just the right shot, a good player needs to understand the basic rotary mechanics, the first link in the chain. The initiation of the shooting motion begins in the lower body, one needs to have the ability to create a pelvic torque. It starts from the bottom and works its way up. When you add gravity, momentum, body rotation, and stabilization together, torque is your ending result. Gravity utilizes a vertical force while momentum employs a horizontal force. “A force can produce a torque and a torque can produce a force” (Bloomfield, 53). In the rotation of the body, the player is focusing more on a rotational motion. According to The Physics of Everyday Life: How Things Work, “rotational motion is…

The bottom tip of the ball should be aligned directly under your chin. You should place your dominant hand on the laces of the ball, similar to how a quarterback grips the football. The offhand is the guide hand and is placed on the middle of the ball opposite the dominant hand. The middle finger should be aligned parallel to the seam of the ball, pressing the palm into the ball and forcing it into the power hand. You need to roll and cock the power hand, which forms a slight bend in the wrist, and turns the laces of the ball toward the ground. The placement of the dominant hand is crucial. First, place the first knuckle of the index finger across the seam of the ball. Second place the middle finger and ring knuckles between the 2nd and 3rd laces of the ball, keeping them close together. Thirdly, place the little finger across the bottom seam of the ball. Lastly, place the thumb around the ball, forming a natural "V" with the index finger and thumb. The placement of the guide hand is also crucial. First, place the middle finger down the seam of the ball. The height of the middle finger on the seam helps determine…

Studying the bonobo has given researchers much insight into our closest living relative. Unfortunately, according to a number of different journal articles, the bonobo is on the verge of extinction. However, in order to understand the conservation issues associated with the bonobo, we must first be able to classify the animal with respect to its families and groups. The bonobo is classified according to the taxonomic hierarchy. Bonobos belong to the superfamily Hominoidea that includes apes and humans, and the family of great apes. The subfamily bonobos belong to is the Ponginae with the genus Pan. The genus Pan includes primates such as the bonobos and chimpanzees. The bonobo is known as the species called paniscus, while the chimpanzee is troglodytes. Finally, the evolutionary characteristics of the genus Pan include "knuckle walking" and "thin teeth" (Mcgrew 4). Now that we have an idea of the classification of the bonobo we can begin to understand why it must be protected.…

The second step is Elbow. Now as you gain balance you want to gather the ball. The best way to do that is by having your elbow not hanging out. A bad example would be Shawn Merion, who has his elbow out so far sometimes that you cannot tell if he is shooting with two hands or one. As you develop your shot, you want to remember that the closer your elbow is to your body, the more accurate your release will be. Another important tip to remember is that you do not want to have your elbow at a 180-degree angle or a 32-degree angle. Try to have your elbow around a 90-degree angle.…
