Intellectual Autobiography
I have never had a clear idea of who I want to be or why I have chosen a certain area of study, but I have always liked school, learning, reading books and getting to know about different topics. As you might remember, I was raised in El Salvador and I always attended a small public school. My school finally got a library when I was in second grade and I felt that it was time to choose a book of my interest. I chose the book “Peter Pan in Scarlet” without knowing who Peter Pan or Wendy were but as soon as I finished it I wanted to read some more. As access to books became wider, we would start to get assignments to read one or two books during the school year. However, some kids would choose not to read anything and some friend would come to me so I could summarize the book before a quiz or discussion. I never minded sharing the knowledge because talking about it helped me understand more. Reading in Spanish always

I am not going to lie; I hated the feeling of not knowing how to communicate during class. I decided that communicating in a whole different language was my next big challenge. Furthermore, I started going into workbook exercises, notetaking and ultimately reading English books. My English professor Miss Blanqui made us read a book of our choice monthly. The assignment also included a written summary of the book and an oral presentation in front of the class. Miss Blanqui’s assignments were always fun and interactive. I remember she also asked us to keep a journal so we could become better writers and it was amazing to see how my writing skills improved and how with her feedback helped me stop making certain mistakes. I still have those three journals because they are definitely more than just pages of the boring life of a high school girl. My journals show that learning is a process that takes time and constant

“A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge,” said by a famous American novelist, George R.R. Martin. Personally, I couldn’t agree more with this quote. Books are always being with me throughout my life. My literacy journey started when I was nine years old. I started with some simple Dairy and short stories.…

Finding one book that intrigued Stephanie enough was all it took to make her an everyday reader. The same goes to me. When in my earlier years I hated reading. There were only two things I hated to do. Those two things were reading, and doing what someone told me to do. Hating a combination of the both you could see how the disposition with reading would subsist. It wasn’t until the summer going into middle school that I changed my ideals on the subject.…

A memoir is more interesting than an auto biography because it sums up your life without all of the extra information. When you do write about yourself, you need to make it as interesting as possible. Don’t lie or make up something that isn’t true, but tell interesting things from your child hood and really funny things that has happened to you. This will help the reader…

Being fed up with not being able to speak fluent English like I knew I could, I began to practice constantly. I knew that public speaking was important in my high school career, so I would find time and form a habit of reciting any work that I had to present in class to myself or to my peers. I also joined a club that revolves around presenting business cases and generally socializing with strangers, which helped me along a lot. I told myself that I would eventually be able to communicate to a large group of associates, and I did so with a few petty mistakes, but at least I had the courage to form complete…

The only books I could understand were the ones for elementary kids because of their easy vocabulary. I used to check those out and I always had a dictionary next to me in case I didn’t know something, and when there were times I couldn’t understand anything I used Google translate at home. Those times were difficult for me because I was so used to reading books for my age and books that had a big vocabulary that I just hated reading something that I couldn’t understand but my mom pushed me to do it, she prohibited me to read any Spanish books, at the time I had a book called Lovely Bones, the story about a girl who is murdered and she tells what happened to her, it was in Spanish so my mom got mad at me and ripped it, it made very sad but that also helped me to focus on just reading in English. In 8th grade I had an amazing English teacher who would also make us check out a lot of books, every month we had to read a book and by the end of the month we had to write a summary, a lot of people hated that…

They never asked me what do I want to read about or what I want to learn about until my 7th grade year when we had to read a book, take a test on it, and then write a book report on it. When I was listening to my teacher describe the assignment I was waiting for the circumstances. Then she said anything we want to read and do a book report on. I was dumbfounded when I went to the library because I had no idea on where to start. So I just started going to random areas of the library and seeing anything that just popped out at me and begged me to read it. Finally one did, and to this day still my favorite book I have ever read, “Iron Marshall” by Louis L’Amour. I fell in love with this book. I read it every night before I went to sleep and every day during school when I had down time during class. What drew me in was that there was action in every chapter and the story was in such good detail. I now know the saying that the book is better than the movie. And it is all because of “Iron Marshall”. After reading that book I had to see what else Louis L’Amour had because of how much I fell in love with the first one. Oh he did and to my surprise I can’t pick a favorite one! I read every single book he had in the library by the end of my sophomore year in high…

I am an African American woman, who was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago. I am the youngest girl of four siblings and I am also the only biological child my parents had together. My dad had two kids from a previous marriage. My mom, even though she was not married had a child before she met my dad. I would say I felt special growing up knowing this information that I had this special bond with both my parents, but it was quite the opposite. See, in my family secrecy is a valuable form of protection, and I would like to add destructive. I was protected from the truth that my older sister who I lived with was not my dad’s child. I also learned in my late teens that I was the reason my dad got divorced from his wife: a new baby from an affair was not apart of the wedding vows. There is a saying in the black culture, “What goes on in this house stays in this house.” I was never really able to talk to anyone about what I had learned and how it was affecting me. I was instructed in the ways of my ancestors to keep the family secrets.…

During my adolescence, I always stood out. I moved from Lowell, Massachusetts, which was filled with family, culture, and traditions, to eastern North Carolina at the age of six and entered a new school. Moving to a new state changed my life; I was no longer surrounded by my family and culture. Having an Indian Heritage I was the minority in my new town. Being the only Indian in school made me self-conscious growing up. This prohibited me from building new relationships with other kids my age. Dealing with these circumstances took away from developing essential childhood memories. My parents also played a role in my isolation, fearing that I would lose touch with my culture if I adapted to the way of life around me. As a child, this challenged me and stimulated my curiosity about living life in a new culture while holding on to my own.…

I did not grow up in a single town; I actually grew up in seven different towns, in four different states and two different countries. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. I grew up in Biloxi, Mississippi; Warner Robins, Georgia; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Ottawa, Ontario; Dayton, Ohio; Adana, Turkey; and Beavercreek, Ohio. In all of the places I have lived, I lived on the Air Force Base, because my mom is in the Air Force, except in my current residence Beavercreek, I live off base. When I lived on Air Force bases, the community I was in was close. There were many times that my brothers and I would be playing on a friend’s lawn or walking over to another neighborhood to visit other friends. The houses we lived in, depended on what rank my mother…

Science Autobiography My first memory of learning science was in elementary school. I am unsure of the grade I was in, but I remember the lesson was about plants and how they grew. This lesson was fascinating because I was able to see a plant in all stages growing in water in a plastic baggie. I had never grown anything before, although my parents had a vegetable garden and a few houseplants.…
