There were a lot of inventions in the 19th that made America what we know today. They ranged from early batteries to candy bars and potato chips. The candy bar is important, but it’s not even close to the top 3 most important inventions of the 19th century. Number 3 on the list is vulcanized rubber. The motorcycle is the second most important invention. And the all-time most important invention of the 19th century was the colt revolver.
Charles Goodyear invented the vulcanized rubber process and had the process patented in the year 1844. This invention made the top 3 because it solved a major problem that no one else could. In the summertime rubber would melt and become too gooey to use. In the winter the exact opposite problem occurred, the rubber would get to hard and crack and fall apart when used. Charles served time in jail because of his debt problems. He got these problems trying and failing to fix rubber. Ultimately his perseverance payed off and he improved the rubber trade forever.
Sylvester Roper invented the first motorcycle in 1867. It had a two-cylinder steam engine and was originally called the velocipede. It helped create a faster and more effective way to travel. It was small and used steam not gasoline. Today the motorcycle has been revolutionized. …show more content…
Here’s a couple of nicknames just to show how important it was. It was called the gun that won the west, the peacemaker, and the equalizer. The colt revolver could fire multiple shots without reloading, unlike any hand gun of that time. The gun used interchangeable parts and was made on a production line. At first he had little business but when the Mexican-American war (1846-1848) and the American Civil War (1861-1864) erupted business boomed.
