The movie “The Martian” has won so many awards since its release in 2015. The movie, the director, and the actors all won different kinds of awards such as a Satellite Award, many Golden Globe awards, and People’s Choice Award. But many people, science enthusiasts and all, have doubted the reality of the movie. Does the science used in the movie make sense? If someone were to actually become stranded on Mars and did everything main character Mark Watney did, would they be able to survive? If they were able to survive, would they last as long as he did? These questions have been asked and answered by scientists and reevaluated when new information was brought back to life. There is so much proof saying that a lot of the stunts pulled in this movie could actually be useful information for anyone who by chance would have to survive on Mars. But being that this movie wasn’t entirely made by scientists (and they wanted to end the movie with the main character going back home), there has to be some sort of element of fiction in a science-fiction movie.
One major flaw to the movie’s scientific credibility is the storm that left Watney alone and injured on a planet far from home. Yes, Mars does have wind and storms, but based on a few different articles I read, there is no way that the storms on Mars are anywhere near as intense as the one portrayed in the movie. Plus the fact that these characters were on Mars in the first place is fictitious in itself because we as humans have not accomplished going to Mars and it doesn’t look like we will be able to for a
