Everyone plagiarizes once in their life whether it be by accident or intentional. This is very common and can lead to many consequences which can lead to failing a class or worse. Plagiarism is when someone takes work from another person and uses it as their own without giving any credit. Plagiarizing work is like saving up for a car that you really need for work but instead, you use that money to buy useless things like expensive food, clothes etc. This occurs mostly when individuals do not turn in their work on time and try to complete an assignment without doing their own work and do not give credit to the person who they got that information from. “Mosaic Plagiarism occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks or finds synonyms for the author’s language while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original. Sometimes called “patchwriting,” this kind of paraphrasing, whether intentional or not, is academically dishonest and punishable” (Bowdoin). An example of Mosaic Plagiarism is when a student “borrows” information from a source and does not credit where they got their source from. This can happen on multiple occasions, whether it's intentional or not, it is still dishonest and punishable by the teacher and can substantially affect you in a negative way. This type of plagiarism can happen to any student and can lead to serious punishments. Self Plagiarism is when a student uses work that was used previously. “Self-plagiarism occurs when a student submits his or her own previous work, or mixes parts of previous works, without permission from all professors involved. For example, it would be unacceptable to incorporate part of a term paper you wrote in high school into a paper assigned in a college course.
