Civil disobedience is the act of opposing a law one considers unjust and peacefully disobeying it while accepting the consequence. Peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society because it allows accomplishments. Nonviolent resistance helps achieve goals by social changes, civil disobedience, and economic or political noncooperation. There are many well-known nonviolent protests that impacted the society, and allowed for change to be made. These well-known protest embraces; Gandhi’s Salt March, The March on Washington, and the current protest to dismantle the Muslim Discriminatory Registry. The famous protests encouraged the citizens to fight for their own rights, and get equal opportunities.

Thousands of African Americans, civil rights groups, and religious groups wanted equal job opportunities for all. The protest was brought about because many African Americans felt they had benefited less than anyone from the New Deal. There was also racial discrimination among the African Americans, which affected their opportunities for jobs, during this time. The march began to have a positive impact, President Roosevelt, issued an executive ordering. The executive order forbidden any discrimination and established fair employment. Millions of African Americans were employed soon after, allowing everyone to have equal opportunity.
Lastly, is the current Muslim protest. The protest was form in last efforts to dismantle the Muslim Discriminatory Registry. Thousands of American Muslims and activists from progressive’s groups, will march in last efforts to persuade Obama to dismantle a discriminatory program. The program singled out Arabs and Muslims for surveillance, protesters are trying to get it dismantled before Trump gets into office.
