Recent developments from the Union have brought up the concern that slavery should be abolished. I know my audience, and I know that many of you are the same as I. You are farmers, just like I was. Born and raised on the cotton fields in the south. What do the northerners know about farming? What do they know about the blacks?
Our farms provide them with work, shelter and food. This treatment is better than what some poor Americans receive. If they cannot be happy about this, then what will they settle with? As a wise man once said, “Never before has the black race of Central Africa … attained a condition so civilized…”
Furthermore, this structure is the natural state of mankind. Slavery has existed throughout all of
history, so what is to dictate that it is wrong now? The Romans had slaves, the Greeks had slaves... Our beloved Abraham had slaves, which was never looked down upon by anyone, not even by Jesus. This power structure was made by God. Who are we to change it, and form it to the desires of one race, when God created it to be this way?
To the people that do not go through the struggles that owning a farm brings, abolishing this labor might seem easier than it actually is. The sudden end of slave economy would be disastrous, which is something the Union will most likely put aside. Might I remind everyone that the South is more dependent on farms than the North, and should the cotton, tobacco and rice economy fail, all of the south-states would fall into a state of emergency. The North would probably not notice an immense difference, but the South definitely would. The slaves are crucial for the success of the Southern economy.
For the upcoming vote regarding this topic, I beg of you all to think about the effects your choice will have upon this beautiful country we call home. We do not have the right to tear it down, whether that be through economic failure or God’s Wrath. I encourage you all to truly consider the weight of my words, and I thank you all for lending me your ears.
For the future of the CSA.
Thank you.
