Excellence, Etiquettes & Advantages of Miswak
HISTORY OF MISWAK:

The Miswak, a tree-twig, was in use for brushing and cleansing the teeth long before the advent of our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). In fact the records of our Prophet's (P.B.U.H) Ahadith indicate that the Miswak was the "Sunnah" or practice of all the Prophets (P.B.U.T).

The word Miswak means “RUBBING” or “FRACTION”

Actually Miswak is a small piece of wood, A Miswak should not be longer than a "span" i.e. the maximum distance between the tips of the thumb and little finger, and it should not be thicker than a finger's breadth.

"Abu Ayub (R.A) narrates that Prophet (P.B.U.H) said:

'Four things are amongst the practices of the Ambiyaa —circumcision, application of perfume, Miswak and marriage'."[1]

(AHMAD AND TIRMIZI)

Religious scholars define Miswak as the brush of wood, which is used to clean the tooth.[2]

Several other Ahadith of our Prophet (P.B.U.H) also mention the Miswak to have been the practice of the Prophets. Thus, we can safely claim that the practice of using the Miswak is as old as mankind itself since Mankind's origin on the planet was with the appearance of the first Prophet of Allah, viz. Adam (A.S.). Therefore, among the many advantages and benefits of using the Miswak, one of the greatest benefits is the good-fortune of being associated with the Ambiyaa in this holy practice. On the other hand, those who neglect the use of the Miswak invite upon themselves a great misfortune by being deprived of the tremendous amount of Sawaab (Reward) which this noble practice carries.

Allama Ibn Ismail says:

"It surprises me how people could forget such a great Sunnah, the significance of which many Ahadith of our Prophet (P.B.U.H) explain. Remember that it is a great loss to neglect the Miswak."

'Abd al-Rahman son of Abu Sa`id al-Khudri reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of God said:

“Bathing on Friday for every adult, using of Miswak and applying some perfume or cologne, that is

Person-centered therapy may not work as well with people who find it complicated to discuss issues about themselves or have a mental illness that misrepresents their perceptions of reality. However, I believe that Person Centered Counseling is an approach which emphasizes the clients responsibility to take control of their own experience. In this approach the client is given the tools and encouragement to make their own decisions and realize their own potential for growth. Person Centered Theories were developed by Carl Rogers. It is not a secret that throughout the history women suffered an underprivileged social status. This particularly applies to the Muslim society, where even up to this day women are often thought of as having no soul (Kaleem). With the change of American immigration policy, the people of predominantly non-White origins started to pour into this country, thus contributing to the creation of multicultural society that we immensely enjoy nowadays. Yet, it was being noticed that unlike White immigrants, who were willing to become an essential part of American society, the people of different racial background preferred to remain within the boundaries of their cultural niche, often creating a society within the society. Therefore, the social status of women within such closed ethnic enclaves has not changed much from what they were in their native countries.…

Thus, we may recognize that the founding of Islam is indeed the First Revolution in Islam. At the same time, we must acknowledge that almost as soon as the Prophet died in 632 A.D., the old ruling families and especially the Umaiya family began once again to assert its influence. At first Abu Bakr (632-634), the close friend of the Prophet, was appointed as the Prophet's successor in the leadership. In fact the very term in Arabic for successor, Al-Khalifah, (in English, “Caliph”) was adopted by succeeding leaders of the Islamic community: “The Successor of the Prophet of God.” Upon the death of Abu Bakr, another close associate of the Prophet and a valued military leader, ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab (634-644), took up the reigns of power. He is often likened to Moses, as a distinguished patriarch of…
