Progress cannot be made without change. A leader should welcome change as an opportunity to improve. This may involve implementing new ideas or methods of teaching or rethinking the way something is currently done. Sometimes it takes creativity and willingness to experiment to obtain educational growth. Even when something does not work out as planned, failure itself can become an opportunity to grow and improve.
ISLLC standard 1 supports the opportunity to grow and improve. This standard promotes success through development. Effective communication is necessary for school improvement. Assessment data linked to education is used to develop goals and create plans that are frequently evaluated and modified for improvement.
A leader must be able to inspire and motivate those they lead to perform at their best. They need to create relationships and connect with others. When working with special needs students it is important to have a sense of humor. This alone can sometimes determine the atmosphere of my classroom. Laughing tends to calm anxiety and allows the children to relax as they are learning. Collaboration is essential to my job. In order to be effective I have to communicate with many of my colleagues to ensure the success of my students. Not only do I need to collaborate with general education teachers for curriculum, but with administration during IEP’s. Collaboration and communication with parents is important. It allows for the sharing of knowledge and the working together to help their child
