Exercise 11
Article for exercise: Troy, N. W., & Dalgas-Pelish, P. (2003). The effectiveness of a self-care intervention for the management of postpartum fatigue. Applied Nursing Research, 16 (1), 38–45.
1. What demographic variables were measured at least at the interval level of measurement?
I think marital status should have been because postpartum moms that are single are going to have a higher level of fatigue due to less help, whereas moms that are married will have help from their husbands.
2. What statistics were used to describe the length of labor in this study? Were these appropriate?
The statistics were described using mean and standard deviation. I think these would be appropriate if there wasn’t missing information. The percentages don’t total 100% because there is data missing.
3. What other statistic could have been used to describe the length of labor? Provide a rationale for your answer.
I think utilizing mode and median would’ve been helpful to the study because then there would be a more accurate amount of information provided. Making the study provide more information.
4. Were the distributions of scores similar for the experimental and control groups for the length of labor? Provide a rationale for your answer.
The scores for the experimental and control groups for the length of labor were similar close in numbers. The experiment group had a n of 30, m of 14.63, and a standard deviation of 7.78, whereas the control group had a n of 33, m of 12.70 and a standard deviation of 7.2. In all reality, the numbers were close in comparison, but the two hour difference in labor time is significant to the study.
5. Were the experimental and control groups similar in their type of feeding? Provide a rationale for your answer.
The groups were not similar in their type of feedings. The control group had a greater number of feedings noted. The experimental group only had 13 breast fed, 17 bottle fed, and 2 that participated in
