In this experiment, the molecular weight of a condensed vapor was found through a procedure using an unknown liquid. The flask before adding the unknown liquid in was full of air. After the beaker full of water started to boil the flask was examined until the unknown liquid was completely vaporized. At that exact point the flask contained all vapor. At the final weighing the flask contained condensed vapor and air. There is always a chance for error. Some sources of error could have come with completing this lab over an open water bath and some water vapor may have been in place. Also, too much vapor could have escaped and the experiment might not have been stopped quick…
Evaporation, the process by which molecules undergo the a spontaneous transition from the liquid phase to the gas phase. Evaporation is the opposite of condensation. The remaining residue in the evaporation cup is the substance that had been dissolved in the solvent.…
Evaporation of a substance such as water occurs when the molecules in a liquid state absorb enough…
According to Dr. John I. Gelder of Oklahoma State University, the vapor pressure of water at the water bath temperature of 17.7° C (rounded off to 18.0° C) is 15.5 mm Hg or 0.0204 atm.…

Tyranny is like type of torture over states. Living under this word would be like living in hell. What did James Madison do to stop Tyranny. In 1794, the amendments were created and were ratified in 1795. Believe it or not this was something that stopped Franklin Roosevelt from creating tyranny. These 11 through 27 amendments were made in a place called “United States” which many americans live nowadays. But really, how did the bill of rights (amendments) guard us from tyranny?…
It’s a Tuesday. I’m finishing my workout at my neighborhood gym. I walk into the locker room, throw my clothes off, and head to the showers. The water is warm. I’m feeling like a real go-getter. The endorphins, the steam – it’s relaxing. Veeery relaxing. I take a handful of the shower gel that the gym supplies in buckets and start lathering up. I’m making sure things are clean down there. Really, really clean. (Not really, readers – I’m jerking off. Duh.)…
In liquids, particles are being held together by bonds, however the particles are still able to move around ("Evaporation"). Some of these particles have a lot of energy. These particles with a lot of energy are able to escape in a form of gas even before the liquid reaches its boiling point ("Evaporation"). If there are not a lot of forces holding the liquid particles together the particles would have a less chance of changing state. The graph shows that the average methanol temperature decreased the fastest after being stable for the first 20 seconds (see Figure 1).…
As a liquid evaporates, it lowers the temperature of the substances around them, because evaporation is an endothermic process. In the graph, each substance has a different curve. Some lowered the temperature much more than others. This is because different substances require differing amounts of energy to evaporate. To test this, the temperature change from the evaporation of 4 different alcohols was measured and compared, along with cyclohexane. Methanol had the largest change in temperature, 18.9 ºC. This indicates that methanol has the weakest intermolecular attractions out of the 4 alcohols, because it evaporated the most. This may be because methanol is a small molecule so it has less electrons and therefore is not as polarizable as…
When performing this experiment make sure all materials are present this includes: Blood Pressure Probe, a Sphygmomanometer, computer with Logger Pro software, Stethoscope, Logger Pro cables, and a timer if you so chose. Using the Blood Pressure Probes, Logger Pro cable, and the software you are ready to begin the experiment. Have a scary video pulled up from youtube that is within the time limit of 0-120 seconds. It would be wise to have the video around 60 seconds because that is the time frame you are to use during this experiment. On your computer start the LoggerPro software and go to the files tab and open the Human Physiology with Vernier folder. Click the Blood Press Vitual Sign because that is what you will be measured by. Have your…
Once the appropriate time has passed, without any interruptions, turn off the heat and remove the canner from the heat source. Allow the canner to depressurize, never force-cooling it. This may lead to seal failure, the loss of liquid from the jars and possibly steam locks due to warping of the lid in older models. When using an older model, the depressurization process needs to be timed. Typically 30 minutes will be required for pint size jars and 45 minutes for quart size jars. If using a newer model with a vent lock, the canner is depressurized when the vent lock piston returns to a normal position.…
2. Figure 13.6a eventually moves into the air. The conversion of a liquid to a gas or vapor is called vaporization. When such a conversion occurs at the surface of a liquid that is not boiling, the process is called evaporation. Most of the molecules in a liquid don’t have enough kinetic energy to overcome the attractive forces and escape into the gaseous state. During evaporation, only those molecules with a certain minimum kinetic energy can escape from the surface of the liquid. Even some of the particles that do escacape collide with molecules in the air and rebound into the liquid.…

Increasing fuel prices has prompted drivers to identify more ways to improve the gas mileage of their cars. Many articles and websites provide recommendations and suggestions on how to reduce gasoline consumption. One of the more popular…
In reality, many binary mixture do not follow Raoult’s law. The actual vapor pressure can be higher or less than what predicted by Raoult’s law and causes positive or negative deviation. For a positive deviation system, A-B interaction are favorable and the boiling temperature curve at different mole fraction gives a maximum. For a negative deviation system, A-B interaction are unfavorable and the boiling temperature curve shows a minimum. At maximum or minimum point on the curve, the composition of the liquid and of the vapor are the same. Such a mixture is called azeotrope.…
