of today’s society. Weir also advocates that the human race has begun adhering their lifestyle to the internet. Here, Weir is claiming that humans have altered their way of getting things done because the internet offers an alternative method that has proven to be more potent. Finally, Weir refers to Stephen Downes of National Research Council, Canada when Downe voices the opinion that the internet may hinder the abilities of some to perform small number of activities, but overall sites such as Google offer a higher level of intelligence to people. Downe is conveying the opinion that the internet may cause people to lose the capability to complete a certain task, but the greater good that the internet offers is more effective than the abilities that are lost. The internet is also a way to connect people across the world and share opinions and ideas that are resourceful and helpful to one another.
According to “The Internet Can Make You Smarter, Experts Say” by Lance Whitney, experts agree that internet allows people to broaden their education, as well as their imagination. Whitney is claiming that the internet not only offers a source for higher education, but also offers a source of inspiration to those who choose to use it. Whitney then goes on to explain that most experts feel that “the gadgets and applications destined to capture our imaginations in the next 10 years” are going to be stunning to even the smartest minds today (9). Whitney is claiming that the internet can lead to astonishing contraptions that will improve lifestyles. Finally, Whitney states that sixty five percent of the 900 participants of the report “The future of the Internet IV” agree that the internet can enhance the human cognitive skills. This means that a good portion of the experts believe that the internet is a resourceful and beneficial aspect of the modern
world. Although many support the claim that the internet is a beneficial tool, others such as Nicholas Carr believe that the internet is hindering the reading skills of individuals and keeping them in a “state of perpetual locomotion” (Carr 15). In recent studies such as “The Future of the Internet IV”, most of the researchers shared the opinion that the use of the internet will improve the capability to make wise choices and become more knowledgeable. The internet offers access to an unrestrained source of information and allowing users to heighten their perception. All in all, the internet bids a connection between those who grasp information to those who desire to understand the concepts. Although the human reliance of the internet does not come without consequences, it is the most suitable way to attain information in the ever changing world.
