Explain Child Protection Within The Wider Concept Of Safeguarding
The term ‘child protection’ is now more likely to be replaced by that of safeguarding. This means that most people will speak of 'safeguarding' a child rather than 'child protection' of a child. This may be because the term 'Safeguarding' has a much broader definition of the wide-ranging ways in which adults and professionals working with children and young people need to act when managing child protection issues. It covers more of the ways in which adults and professionals work together to ensure the safety of children and young people.

Under the 1989 and 2004 Children Acts Local Authorities have a clear number of statutory functions and duties. This includes specific duties in relation to children in need and children suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm, regardless of where they are found, under sections 17 and 47 of the Children Act 1989. In Local Authorities the key points of professional and political accountability are the Director of Children’s Services and Lead Member for Children’s Services, and they have the responsibility for the effective delivery of these functions and duties. All staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities in being alert to the signs of abuse and understand how to refer any concerns to the designated safeguarding lead.
That parents have an understanding of the responsibility placed on the setting and staff for safeguarding; this can be done by setting out its obligations in the school prospectus.
Notify Childcare Services if there is an unexplained absence of more than two days of a pupil who has a child protection plan.
Create and keep up effective and strong links with relevant agencies and co-operate' as required' with their enquiries regarding safeguarding matters, including attendance at case conferences.
Keep written records of concerns about children, including cases where there is no need to refer the matter at that time.
Ensure all records are kept securely, in a locked cupboard.
Check that staff recruitment practices are being followed.

To have an overview of the procedures that are in place and are followed.
To have an awareness of current open cases.
To manage cases when an allegation is against a member of
