Explain How Genetics Affect Me
How Genetics Affect Me Don’t you ever wonder how your different genetics affect you and the way it works. My different type of genetics have affected me in many ways. I have genetic disorders, my first is asthma, i’m gonna be talking about that. Then the next is eczema, like a skin disorder or rash. After, is the genetic/ heritable trait which is my birthmark and my eyes. Then last but not least is the punnett squares and how that affects me. The first topic i chose was genetic disorder that i get from my siblings or my family members. I have asthma that i inherit from my uncle, grandma, and mom. Asthma is usually triggered by the following: Allergens, exercise, pollution, smoking, and airway infections. Asthma is a condition where a person’s airway becomes inflamed, narrow, and swell, and produces more mucus, which makes it difficult to breathe. My asthma is usually caused when i’m sick, because of me coughing to much, or airway infection. When this happens my …show more content…
They can affect anyone who has those ones, each person is different. Genetic disorders is a big one for me, and have a lot to say about that. Heritable/ Genetic trait was the second, because i don’t really carry a lot of traits that i can relate to my parents but there is some. Last one was the punnett squares, that one is easy because you can get your phenotype by getting your parents genotype. One genetic engineering i chose was Arbogen, i chose this company because they care about the nature. They care about trees, and help them with their growth and keeping them alive. They put a lot of effort into supporting the wetland, stream restoration, mine reclamation, reforestation, and wildlife habitat. In addition they grow hardwood seedlings for the wildlife conservation, the seeds that they provide is like fruits, and nuts which are favored by the deers. i say that this company is really supportive with the nature, and they are

Genes have an effect on middle childhood development. Everything from height and weight to hair color are determined by genes. While other things such as nutrition do affect whether one will grow to their true potential, genes are the main contributing factor. Genetics can also explain why some children have certain diseases and others do not. Children are resilient and will learn to live with the genetic disorders they may face. It is not only physical disorders that can affect a child, but also cognitive impairment can affect a child as well. Some mental disorders are shown to run in families and can be passed from mother or father to the child.…

To begin with, there are 23 chromosomes in each cell found in the nucleus. It is these cells that determine the hereditary of a child as well as the sex during conception. Genetic diseases make up a large proportion of the total disease burden, for example 50% of deafness is due to genetics as well as 40-50% of miscarriages. Another disease that is generally caused by genetics is cystic fibrosis which is caused by a defective gene. As many as four people in the UK have this gene; however the gene is recessive meaning children will only get the gene if both parents are carriers. (Cystic fibrosis results in a sticky mucus forming in the lungs, pancreas and intestines, and in the past it meant a low life expectancy but today a lot can be done to solve this. In relation to Jason asthma also seen as a genetic disease and Jason’s development of asthma could be a result of his Mother smoking of drinking during pregnancy. However the causes of asthma may not just be due to genetic inheritance but also due to environmental factors which I will further later in the essay.…

Genetically modified organisms are made moving the DNA from one species to another. DNA contains genes which code for proteins. For plants and bacteria; restriction enzymes are used to cut a DNA segment from a desired gene source and a bacterium plasmid. They are joined using ligase enzymes and inserted into the plant chromosome or host bacterium. For animals the recombinant DNA is injected into an embryo and transferred to a recipient mother. The organisms will now express a new protein. Proteins determine form and metabolism. Genetic engineering changes the natural DNA of living things, cutting across species boundaries.…

This relates to what we are doing in class because we are speaking about genes and genetics. We’re also learning about genetic disorders which happen when one person is missing a chromosome or has an extra chromosome. Examples can be Down syndrome or Turner Syndrome. This also relates to punnett squares. In punnett squares you find the probability of characteristics and you can use one to find out the probability of a person developing alcoholism. This article relates to class and can possibly relate to anybody’s life. This article taught me that alcoholism is a genetic “disease” and is not something to take lightly. It also helped me learn how traits are passed down through generations and it will continue as long as that gene is in the…

In this new modern world, it is common to believe that there is a cure out there for everything. Treatments for cancer are getting better every year, and the methods for delivering insulin to Diabetes patients has become more refined and precise. However, these are all focused on cures, and very little attention is spent on prevention. The main reason for this is that the exact causes of these diseases are not completely clear. The ways a person interacts with their environment has an obvious effect on what they have a higher likelihood of contracting. It is more likely, for example, for an obese person to develop Diabetes than it is for a fit person. However, the fact remains that there are obese people with an extremely small chance to contract Diabetes, while people who are physically fit their entire lives contract it despite their health. The reason for this is genetic predisposition. Essentially, while there are clear environmental issues that factor into diseases, research has shown that there are genes in every person that determines their capability to obtain certain diseases. Genetic predisposition is a very difficult thing to prove conclusively, unfortunately. The sheer number of different gene formations that can lead to a small increase in the chance to contract one disease or another is staggering. While there is an undeniable influence that genetic predisposition has on a person’s chances of contracting a disease, their chances of contraction can be lowered by using the environment to their advantage.…

The topic that I picked is homosexuality in black America. "Homosexuality is romantic attraction, sexual attraction, or sexual behavior between members of the same sex or gender." In black America being homosexual as an African American man you are faced with alot of risk factors. You are unequally effected by HIV, "Black churches may be a source of stigma which can exacerbate HIV risk and contribute to negative health and physological behavior." For centuries the church has been at the center of the black community. During times of struggle, African Americans tend to fall back on the doctrine that was given to us many years ago. While still illiterate, people of color were taught to blindly have faith in God. This created a natural connection and…

The topic I chose is informed consent. It is a difficult and complex topic with many different laws and viewpoints. The laws of consent often vary by state and in my opinion are often not fully understood by many people. There are many ethical issues that can take place from not completely understanding the consent form. Many people do not read the form at all and consequently do not know their rights as a patient. Patients sometimes sign the consent form without fully understanding everything that is required for them to know. When an issue comes up it can then quickly escalate to an ethical issue that can only be resolved in court because they were not aware of all the possibilities. Patients must not agree to the consent form without being…
