The goal of the chairman Howard Schultz for his brand Starbucks is to establish it as the most recognizable and respectable brand in the world, in order to do so, Human Resource department has put a lot of effort by multiple channels. By considering different backgrounds and needs of its staff, Starbucks implement different path and plans to help staff’s further career to next peak. By closer its distance between the staff and company, it’s also a competitive advantage in the market and drive the general performance to a higher level.

Similar to assistant manager training program, but this program is targeted to the trainee who are prepare to be a district manager, the program would takes around three to four months. Most importantly, this program is more focus on how the manager could gather the people together to achieve a higher achievement.
• ‘Connect, Discover and Respond’
Everything can go very fast in Starbucks; staff can responds to your needs and wants without hesitate, when thing got busy in the store, staff can be very effective and helpful to each other. There will always be enough number of people to take orders and service, the communicate between staffs are perfect and unobstructed, so called “Connect” and made the action to customer.

• Polycentric and Geocentric
For a Multinational Corporation like Starbucks, when they entered a new segment. They need to realized that what’s the best to the people in that area, and Starbucks found the right solution, finding the right person to run the store, finding the right place to place their store.
They mostly hire the people from local, so they can have a better understanding about what’s the best to local people avoid the culture risk, and overcome the social and cultural difference. What’s more to hire local people, Starbucks doesn’t even need to consider about the language. Like that Starbucks has establish their brand in a very successful way.
Like what they did in Beijing forbidden City, China. They combined the Chinese tradition with theirs, and that helps Starbucks dig into Chinese market.
