“My battery in my phone is dying” or “Oh, he can tweet but can’t text back?” is what floods Twitter user’s timeline on a daily basis. Meghan Daum refers to this as the Age of Oversharing in her essay “I Don’t Give a Tweet What You’re Doing,” where she sarcastically dissects the controversies behind Twitter and how nearly fourteen million users have completely abandoned Twitter’s “initial function to serve as an information conduit between close friends and family” (233). Along with her beliefs of Twitter adding to our already compromised interpersonal skills she carries the tone of being bitter and harsh throughout her essay as she evaluates the many answers to the question “what…

Our own attitudes, values and behaviour could impact on our work with children and young people as we are not neutral beings and even on a sub-conscious level me may be intimating information that impacts negatively on some children or young people. We need to be clear on our own attitudes, values and behaviour and identify how we can work on our own mindset if need be. For instance the language we use can have loaded meanings, in the way we choose to describe things or people. For instance referring to people as ‘just’ the cleaner etc implies some level of inferiority and would have negative impacts on children whose families are part of the cleaning profession.…

In the article, “Aliens, Neo-Confucians, and the Power of Language”, the author, Nathan Vedal, utilizes the film “Arrival” to introduce the controversial idea proposed by the Neo-Confucian scholars of the Ming Dynasty who were attempting to transcribe Confucian teachings from before 5th century B.C.E. This idea consists of the belief that decoding an unfamiliar writing system can teach new ways of seeing the world. Although I do not necessarily believe in this idea, I find the study itself interesting as I have recently learned about the Confucian religion. According to the article, Neo-Confucian scholars of the Ming Dynasty thought that by transcribing the Confucian teachings from before the 5th century B.C.E. one could see the world from the writers’ point of view.…

There are a few reasons as to why I do not think an ethical egoist would agree with Socrates decision to stay and be executed. For example, egoists don’t care about the good cause, Gods cause, the cause of mankind, the cause of truth, of freedom, of humanity, and of justice, which will all Socrates does care about. Egoist believes that the only concern is themselves and that there is no meaning to good or bad.…

I believe in Ethical Egoism and think it would be the best way for people to live. If everyone believed in Ethical Egoism, the world would probably have better people in my opinion. With Ethical Egoism, a person will be able to get ahead in their own life and provide a better life for him or his family. While being an ethical egoist you can still help others so the world won’t be a completely selfish world. And combined with the social contract, it keeps people and things in an order.…

Starting on the morning of April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorodo, two masked students named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold began shooting people. Before they were done, they had killed 12 fellow students, one teacher, and themselves (Lin). Understandably, most people rushed out in terror, but some put their lives in jeopardy to save others. One teacher, named Dave Sanders, helped students and teachers to safety, and he was shot more than once for his efforts. According to an ethical egoist, Sanders was morally wrong, because he failed to maximize is own well being. However, most people will agree that his sacrifice saved many and he is a hero because of it. This example is just one way to show how ethical egoism is not the best possible moral philosophy to follow.…

When people do things it is usually for their self-interest no matter how you want to put it. In some cases it is not good to act in your own self-interest but in the interest of others. Sometimes people get being selfish, confused with self-interest. This is easily done since they are so similar because they both are dealing with self. They are also different because being selfish ties more into personal egoism. I believe that it is good to act in your own self-interest for your benefit as long as it is not for a bad cause. Hypothetically, if I was walking around school giving people the answers to test 's for some extra money this would give me pleasure because I would be getting money out of it, but it is for a bad cause. There are four types of ethical principles that I will be using, which are Rational, individual, personal, and universal ethical egoism (Hinman, page 119). There where two pieces of literature, Flannery O 'Connor 's short story, "The Displaced Person" which has lots of characters that illustrate the different types of ethical egoism, Alexander Solzhenitsyn 's novel One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, which is basically about one character who illustrates ethical egoism, and the movie Gandhi…

The sport of basketball is one of the best sports ever to be invented. This sport features some of the best women and men to have ever played the sport; such as Lebron James, Candise Parker, Reggie miller, Michael Jordan, Stephen Curry and more. The sport has been around for many decades. This is a very simple and easy sport to play. The first thing you will need is a basketball; secondly you will need a hoop. I will start of by teaching you the basics of the game; which are dribbling the ball and passing it. First, when dribbling the ball you dibble from hand to hand only picking the ball up to either pass or shoot the ball in the hoop. Doing this you should never double dribble the ball. When dribbling the ball and you pick it up with two…
