According to Brad Walker (2014, September), stretching, as it relates to physical health and fitness, is “the process of placing particular parts of the body into a position that will lengthen or elongate the muscle and associated soft tissue”. A regular stretching program lead a number of changes begin to occur within the body and specifically within the muscles. Other tissues that begin to adapt to the stretching process include the ligaments, skin, tendons, fascia, and scar tissue. Stretching can be grouped into two categories, static and dynamic. The static stretches refers to stretching exercises that are performed without movement where individual gets into the stretch position and holds the stretch for a specific amount of time. Skipping the warm up process may results in painful muscle and takes time to heal. Actually, what is the different between warm up and stretching? The purpose of warm up is to increase the heart rate and blood flow to the muscle and lead to rise in body temperature. This allows our body to reach full range of motion during exercises. Doing stretching without warm up before cause muscles to tighten rather than relax. This will increase the risk of injury. So, it is true that stretching do not gives any benefits to us? No!
