Policies and procedures are put into place to protect children and young people but also the adults/staff who work with them in the setting, it is very important that all professionals within the work place follow safe working practices to make sure that not only the children and young people are protected but also themselves and their colleagues. E.g. if a disclosure is made by either a child or young person to a member of the staff within the setting it is vital that the information they have trusted you with is always taken very seriously even if it this is proven to be untrue or partly inaccurate. The child or young person should always be listened to by staff in a calm and supportive manner which will allow them to talk freely, openly and be able to make them feel confident with expressing their views, also another important factor is that they are reassured about telling someone and expressed how hard it must have been for them so they always feel like they can come to you to talk to you when they need to and they don’t ever feel alone, scared or a burden to anyone.
