Explain The Five Layers Of Epidermis
The five layers of the epidermis are the stratum basale, stratum spinasum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum.
The stratum basale is the deepest layer and has cells that are shaped like columns. The stratum basale is only one layer. There are three types of cells that are in the stratum basale: the basal cell which is the precursor of the keratinocytes, the merkel cell stimulates the sensory nerves, the melanocyte produce melanin and help to protect the body from the sun. All the keratinocytes are formed in this layer. The next layer, stratum spinasum, has eight to ten layers. The layers appear to be prickly. This layer has langerhen cells which bind to antigens that invade the skin and alerts the immune system, it also
